Hi! Sorry if this is a little long. I tend to ramble on sometimes.

Anyway, I've been having "fun" with a thyroid nodule for the past 2 months. It was originally found on a CT scan that was supposed to be looking at my lymph nodes. GP referred me to an ENT.

ENT completely disregards the lymph nodes and focuses entirely on the thyroid. He orders blood tests and an ultrasound. The bloodtests came back within "normal" range, although after doing some reading, I realized he didn't order FT3, FT4 or antibody tests.

The ultrasound discovered a 4.7cm nodule in my left node. It was both solid and cystic with some calcification. The ENT next ordered an FNA. After getting 6 needles stuck in my neck (7 counting the lidocaine) they send me home. Turns out none of the samples they took were adequate for proper diagnosis. The report did mention some benign follicular cells and some Hurthle cells.

In spite of the poor quality of the FNA samples and the iffy pathologist report, the ENT still wanted to do a lobectomy and possible TT, depending on what he found when he was in there.

I've since cancelled the surgery, just had the 2nd FNA yesterday, and scheduled an appt with a really good endo for a 2nd opinion. I should be getting the path report for the latest FNA tomorrow.

Has anyone else felt like their dr was railroading them into surgery? Honestly, if it weren't for some people on a different message board, I'd be having surgery on the 13th of this month. Scary.

So that's my intro. Nice to meet you! :)
