Anyone have low white blood cell count?
| Thu, 04-05-2007 - 9:23pm |
Just had a tsh retest; I need to have my dosage increased. I also have a very low white blood cell count. Its usually low but I guess this time its really low(don't know the exact count yet) My B-12 and folate levels were fine-I am on B-12 supplements.
My Dr. said if, after being on the new Levoxyl dosage for 2 months, the count doesn't go up; she wants me to go to a hematologist.
I also have Celiac's disease(which can cause low wbc), fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.
Anyone else have chronic low white blood cell count?
TIA
Dana

HI,
I have a chronically low wbc. Mine has ranged 3.2-4.2 for several years and recentely tested at 2.9. I've been seeing a hematologist and he tested me for a bunch of things and the tests were normal, though I am doing a bone marrow test on Monday. My doctor wants to check it to be safe since I am hoping to become pregnant. I hate all the stress! I tend to worry about my health anyway, but this isn't helping.
I have found a lot of people, though, who run low for no apparent reason and are healthy. Right now my 8-year-old and my husband both are sick and I am not. I rarely catch anything.
I take Synthroid but just recently started that and only mildly hypo. I tested negative for celiac, but I tend to have chronic loose stools and bloating, and I wonder if I don't have some sort of gluten sensitivity. I should try the diet just to see.
How low are your counts?
Good luck with your bone marrow test on Monday. In the last few years any visit to the Dr. has me worried.
I got my results in the mail yesterday and was surprised because the count was 4, which for me, at least compared to past results is high. The one before this was 3.5. I guess she is concerned because of everthing else that is going on with me. Same here with getting sick. I work in a first grade class and the school has had lots of flu and strep go through this year and I haven't caught anything.
You may have some kind of gluten sensitivity. Because of an insurance problem I couldn't get the blood work done for celiac's back in 2003, so my Dr. said she was pretty sure thats what it sounded like, so go gluten free and see how you feel.
I did and started feeling tons better in about 4 days. I would do mini challenges, Dr. wanted me to try eating gluten for a week-end see how I reacted. Couldn't do it, any little bit made me feel horrible. A year later I got the Celiac's blood work done but it came up negative-well of course I had been gf for a year.
Make sure you are all done with any type of celiac/gluten testing before going gluten free.
My TSH was 5.82 this time, in November it was 3.22; so some thing is obviously going on!?
Let me know how your test goes.
