Oh yeah, achy muscles and joints are just one of the symptoms. And it takes as long as a month to start seeing effects from medicatiion like synthroid.

Hang in there and we are here if you need a warm shoulder

It will get better. I loved when the meds started working after I was diagnosed. The brain fog disappeared, achyness disappeared, its like this whole fog just lifted off my body

Hey,
You said it takes as long as a month for the meds to kick in, im pretty new to the whole thing but I was started off on a low doseage of thyroid hormone replacement and it's been 3 months altogether now since then and I have had no change in symptoms whatsoever!
Is this normal to have to wait a long time for them to get it right?
I will be going back to them soon but am a little worried that my levels will show up normal and they won't raise it at all because my levels tend to just fluctuate and it took a really long time for them to believe there was something wrong at all!
Thanks!

Hi Sherry,
I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid right after the birth of my son and I remember being very sore, lots of aches and pains but it was hard me to tell since I just had a child, but it is a symptom of underactive thyroid.

I was on Levoxyl first time around and I noticed it was triggering my migraines, so watch out for that if you deal with headaches or migraines. Sometimes it is better to pay the extra money for Synthroid (name brand).
My Insurance Co. was charging me $15.00 each month for my Synthroid and in March I was laid off from my job and had to get my meds without Insurance and it was actually cheaper to get a 90 day supply without Insurance and my doctor gave me a $10 off coupon. Just an FYI.

It does take a bit for the meds to start working...close to 30 days and make sure you take the pill at the same time everyday with a full glass of water and on an empty stomach and do not miss a pill, I have missed pills before and I could tell.

Good Luck!

I have also had alot of joint, muscle pain after my thyroidectomy. Sometimes my arms are numb and tingling, I have had carpul tunnel release surgery so I do not think its that, my skin on my hands is always dry. Do you have a burning sensation in your muscles?

I've been on Synthroid 0.025 mcg since November. My doctor still did not want to increase my dosage but I insisted since I'm still losing handfuls of hair everyday. I'm still having extremely dry skin. She insisted I didn't need more without even seeing my latest lab work, had to take it back when she saw that my condition had worsened despite 100% compliance with meds. She finally agreed to 0.05 mcg every other day. It has only been a week and I haven't noticed a change, but I know that it wasn't working at the lower dose, I'm hoping in another week or two I might see some improvement. I also have muscle pain sometimes. Like when I moved my desk contents at work (no heavy lifting just folders and pens) or cleaned the fridge. Also, I have always had trouble falling asleep but never staying asleep until I went on Synthroid. It seems to be improving now a bit, but I've never been so tired in all my life because I'm getting about 3 hours of sleep total between 12-1:30 and 6-7:30, the rest of the night I'm awake for no good reason, like my eyes just open and my body thinks it is time to get up but it isn't until I finally get tired again at 6 and have to get up for work by 7:30. Ugh!

GOD, I DIDN'T KNOW HOW MANY OF US THERE ARE!!!I have hypo and have had problems with neck pain, sluggishness, joint pain(everywhere) and i really didn't know what to do. The synthroid I'm taking isn't doing anything but keeping two levels out of the three down to normal. Recently though I found something that has changed my life and I'm sharing it with everyone that has hypo, high cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Since I've been taking it my energy levels are up, my joint pain is gone, and I'm sleeping so much better! I wish i could share it with the world but well, for now, I'll just share it one person at a time. You can read more about it at me and my husbands website monavida.com. I decided to get proactive and help people suffering with hypothyroidism, i just didn't know there were so many! I hope this helps all of you get your lives back. Jackie Benitez
