Since my surgery, the swelling in my throat is the same as when I left the hospital. Not painful, just there. It never gets any smaller. So I've called the surgeon's office and they are going to have him call me when he checks in for the morning. I"m kind of wondering if they left something behind in there.
In the PACU after surgery, I heard someone talking about "packing" that was put in along with the drain. Then I asked after being brought to my room and again when they took out my drain the next day and they said that there was no packing. But now this swelling is not going down and there is this huge lump in my throat like the worst goiter you've ever seen (but of course its not becausue they took out most of my thyroid last week).
What has been your experience if you have had thyroid surgery? Did it take more than one week to see results from decreased swelling? I would think that the swelling would be at least pretty decreased by now right?
Not seeking medical advise here, just your experiences with surgery and recovery.

Did you hear from your surgeon this morning?
I had my surgery so long ago that I don't recall anything about swelling.
I finally saw him yesterday and he said that everything looks very normal for after surgery. He said that since my thyroid was so (he used the word) "massive" that there was going to be more blood loss and the swelling would go down when the blood reabsorbs. Thank God!
I"m feeling better today. Was pretty hypo yesterday and started up on thyroid replacement (taking left over synthroid till I can go out and get my Armour). I can't keep up with the four munchkins with nothing to replace my hormone level.
