Levothyroxin and nausea.....

I am hypo and my doctor put me on 50 mcg of Levothyroxin. I take it early in the morning and wait about an hour to eat breakfast. Around mid-morning, I start getting nauseous. I don't see that it's a side effect, but it might be. Or will my body adjust once everything evens out a bit? Does anyone take it with food? The instructions say to take it without food and in the morning, but I could have sworn that I heard my doctor say that I can take it at any time. I'm just worried because I take my vitamins, BCP, etc. at night. I didn't know how this medication would react with the others that I take.

Any info. is appreciated!

I am taking it too and the same dosage as you. I take it like you in the morning about an hour before I eat. I personally have not had any nausea. I know that it does say that you have to be careful when taking vitamins with it since the vitamins can cause your body not to absorb the thyroid med. as well. I would ask your doctor next time you see him/her if nausea could be a side effect. Could it be something with your BCP or even the vitamin? I don't know just throwing that out there as a suggestion. You could also ask the pharamcist if the thyroid pill and BCP interact somehow. My doctor instructed me to take my med. in the morning.
Good luck! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Hi fellow hypo,
I have been taking levothyroxine for a week now...only taking .05mg to start....I take it first thing in the morning around 6am and by 9am I am nauseous as well...I take a multivitamin around 5pm. I did read that nausea is a side effect of the meds. I find that although I feel the nausea all day when I have lunch it does easy up abit. I was told that you can lose weight on this drug (not that I need to..a bonus side effect) I can see why when I feel nauseous all day. You are not alone...how long have you been on levothyroxin? You have to take it on an empty stomach...both dr. and pharm. told me . Hope this helps!!

The first 10 days I had nausea and felt dizzy and kind of spacy but only the first 1-2 hrs after taking it .. I still get that way as they increase the dosage but it goes away.
