Anyone on Armour or have input?
| Fri, 05-04-2007 - 9:21am |
I finally called the doc and got blood drawn yesterday to hopefully get some answers. I am so fearful of everything being normal and then I am left with no answers. BUT, I found a web site "Stop the tyroid madness". Anyone been there? It has gobs of great info and support. There is a lot of talk about Armour instead of like synthroid. Does anyone here have any input on that. Looking for pros and cons. If I do get some abnormal test results back I want to be prepared to ask for what I want not what the doc thinks is best for me and the 1000 others she treats. Does anyone have any other web sites out there with good information? Thanks!!!

Mary Shomon is a fantastic patient advocate for thyroid condition and has LOTS of info on the web. Here's a link for you to check out.

I've been on Armour for almost 10 years now. I tried everything else and this seems to work the best for me. It has T4 and T3 hormones and for some reason that works better than just T4 medications.
I've been to Mary's site and she does have lost of good information.
Good luck on the Armour.
I've been doing lots of research on it. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago but not before gaining about 50 lbs. Since then I've gained a lot more.
I've joined an online support group and in addition to the other research I've heard nothing but good things about Armour...except from my doctor. I can not get him to prescribe it for me. He says that because it is natural thyroid and not synthetic the dosage can not guaranteed to be the same in every pill. I've sought a second opinion because my doctor is not convinced that my "levels" should cause alarm. But I KNOW my body and I know that I don't feel normal, regardless of what the tests show. It's all very frustrating, as you may already know. If not, you will soon find out.
The only advise I can give is don't be afraid to challenge your doctor or even seek a second opinion if need be. Most of the doctors I've encountered or heard about from others don't seem to get alarmed unless your numbers are seriously out of whack. If your levels are in the norm that's how they treat you regardless of how many symptoms you still feel.
Good Luck!
