Anybody on birth control?

Right around the same time that I was diagnosed with hypo, my ob/gyn put me on the pill, Yaz. Since my moods were horrible, we thought that it was just a bout of PMDD. But I later found out with a blood test (TSH) that yes indeed, I had hypo. The doctor started me on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine.

So this month's period was HORRIBLE. I had cramps from hell and I've never felt so down in the dumps and tired. I went to the doctor on Friday since I've almost been on the Levo for 8 weeks and had my TSH and t4 tested. I'm waiting on those results.

I don't HAVE to be on the pill either. DH has had a vasectomy. My doctor and I just thought that it would help my moods, but lately I've been spacey and all over the place. I just don't feel like myself.

I did put a call in to my OB/GYN to see if she suggests getting off of the Yaz. I know that it works well for some, but doesn't for others.

I just don't know what to do. But I do know that I want to feel like myself again!

Anybody had to up their dosage because they were on birth control? I'm just curious to see how the two interacted.

Yaz is awful for you. I am a drug rep for birth control and Yaz is like the worse one especially for hypo people like us. I am on Loestrin 24 and not only will it help with your cramps but your period will be less than 3 days and really light. I had thyroid cancer in August and now that I am on Levoxyl and Loestrin 24. Life is good. I would switch right away. Hope this helps.

Good luck

Thank you so much for your input! If I didn't have thyroid issues, then it probably wouldn't matter what pill I'm on. Honestly, my periods usually aren't that bad anyway. But this one was horrible! I'm finally coming out of it. I actually have 3 active pills left and then I have 3 sugar pills to take. So I think it's a good time to quit. I'm still waiting for a call back from my doctor. I'll see what she says. I'm due for an annual exam in a month or two, so I'll have things checked out and then go from there. Plus I get to save freakin $40 per month now!
