Is Levothyroxine a generic?
| Fri, 07-20-2007 - 10:25am |
Hi Everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was prescribed some medication. I've been on the meds for approximately 3 weeks and am confused if I was given a generic prescription. When I search Synthroid online I find: Synthroid® (levothyroxine). The reason I'm concerned is because I recently read in "The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough" that if you're trying to conceive it's important to be receiving Synthroid and not the generic due to the variation of, I guess, hormones in the pill. I recently miscarried and I'm hopefully going to be released from DR care and allowed to TTC in one more month. I'm scared that if I'm not taking the correct medication I could experience another painful miscarriage. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Hi desousa05,
Welcome to our board.
I'm going to let the others on these meds answer your question but from what I understand, generics should be avoided for anyone on thyroid meds.
