thyroid nodule

I thought I had infection on my left lympth node and was on iv antibotics for 7 days being that it has happen in the past, this was done as a precaution. I was referred to ENT for further evaluation of lympth node. He sent me for ct scan and found that my lympth node was enlarged for some reason but not from infection. They also found a nodule on my right side of my thyroid. He sent me for ultrasound of my thyroid and found two more nodule. One nodule is 4mm and the other two is 2mm. He is concern of the 4mm as it looks suspicous. My symptoms are swollen hard lympth node of my left side, headaches, hoarseness, swallowing problems, coughing to clear my throat, neck swelling, has flared up my gastroparesis, rapid heart rate, and left ear pain when swelling increase. While the swelling increased I ended in the er twice within 3 days apart due to swelling, vomiting due to gastroparesis, headaches and rapid heart rate. I still have this symptoms since July 4. My blood work for thyroid is normal. I do have family history of thyroid cancer as my mother had it when she was 17 years old,my mother sister had it,and my cousin who is 24 years old just found out she has it the day before me and she just had a baby 4 months ago. My mother had radioactive iodine therapy for her nodule. I go for FNA on Aug 2 to find out what it is. Is it reasonable to take out the right side of thyroid and left lympth node due to symptoms and family history if it comes back benign even if md want to wait and see and use medication? What are the chances of cancer for a 32 year old female? I can not take any oral medication due to severe gastroparesis so my only option is surgery unless there is something else, will this be a good reason to take it out? What is the outcome of surgery?

Hi rmg175,
Welcome to our board.
With your family history of thyroid problems, it's good you're getting thoroughly checked out.
Hi rmg175
I also had a nodule on the right side of my thyroid. I had a right lobectomy back in Sept. It turned out to be benign. My TSH levels were normal for about six months, but the left side started producing too much TSH so I have had to be put on synthroid.
I was told that they can't be 100% certain if nodule is cancer until it is removed and they test it.
