Hi All ! I have been lurking here with some recent thyroid issues and hoping that someone might have some insight or thoughts to share. In Jan I noticed a large lump in my throat and after a scan and FNA biopsy it was decided to be a benign goiter. I had normal thyroid blood tests. Because of it's size they removed the whole thyroid in June. I have since had a lot of symptoms related to my calcium and magnesium levels being very low following surgery. I've been taking supplements since june and they still are not normal plus they fall back if I stop taking the supplements even for a day or so. Has anyone ever dealt with this? SHould I be concerned that they aren't recovering after 2 months?

Thanks !

Hi when2004,

Welcome to our board.

Because you mentioned calcium, I'm wondering if they removed any of your parathyroid glands.

I was hospitalized two days after thyroid removal because the stupid ENT didn't put me on calcium. I now take 1600mg of calcium everyday but it takes time to get to that level. The stomach doesn't like that much calcium. Take it everyday and don't take it within four hours of the synthroid. You will have to take it for the rest of your life just like the synthroid. Good luck
