Caught me off guard...

Hello, I'm new to Boards... A couple of weeks ago I had been bitten by a bug on my neck. A couple of days later as I was scratching my neck, I noticed a marble sized lump low on my neck on the left side. At first I thought it was the bite, but my mom thought it was my thyroid since it moved up and down when I swallowed (my mom missed her calling - should have been a Dr!). Anyway, went home that night and immediately started researching thyroid and found out all I could about nodules, cysts and cancers... I got an appointment last week with my family doc - needless to say he was a little taken aback when I started talking about nodules, asking questions about the various tests, bloodwork, etc... He did confirm my nodule diagnosis and did bloodwork. I have since found out my bloodwork is normal - and went to my ultrasound yesterday. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to discuss the results of that. I'm going to ask to be referred to an Endo regardless of the results so that I can get a more accurate picture of what I will need to do. I'm 43 years old and am not on any medications and have really felt pretty great - no issues so far. The only reason I'm here now is because of a bug - God works in mysterious ways... One thing that did kind of scare me is that the Ultrasound person spent much more time on my right side than on my left where the bump was... so I have a feeling that I have more than one... I will keep you posted. I'm glad I found this Board... Thanks for reading... Janet

Welcome to our board.

I know you've done a lot of research already so you may not need these links but I'll list what we have here on iVillage:

Just came back from the Dr. I have a 2.5 cm complex cyst/nodule on the left - a .6mm solid nodule on my right. I have been referred to an ENT surgeon for further tests. I am going to push to have the nodule on the left removed and biopsied rather than go through several needle biopsies that may or may not have accurate results. Since this one is so large I'm sure it will need to be removed anyway, so why not cut to the chase? I would rather endure 2 surgeries if need be than to live with uncertanty... Anyway, I consider this to be a bump in the road of life no matter what the outcome. I refuse to live my life in fear, but rather try to appreciate every day for the gift that it is. I could walk out the door and be hit by a bus tomorrow - no sense in worrying about the date it will happen! My Doc is making my appointment with the ENT for me - I'm sure it will be next week some time... I will keep all posted. Thanks for reading! Janet

P.S. I have a cat that looks exactly like yours! We've had her since my youngest was a baby (14 years..)!
