Hi everyone!
I am new here and hope you can help. I woke up yesterday morning with a painful lump on the right side of my neck. I thought it was just a swollen gland associated with a runny noise so I went to the doctor. He felt the lump, had me swallow and said he thought it was an overactive nodule on my thyroid and that I might have hyperthyroidism. And he told me of course that he couldn't rule out a tumor. I had lab work done yesterday and go tomorrow for a scan and uptake. Needless to say, I am scared out of my mind. Besides the lump which is really aggravating, I have no other symptoms of being either hyper or hypo except for some occassional fatigue which I associated with having an 8 1/2 month old who still gets me up once a night. Has anyone else out there had just a painful lump and what does this mean? I am so afraid that it is cancer. And does something like this just pop up seemingly out of nowhere? Thanks for your help!

Hi mom_twocutegirls,
Welcome to our board.
Since this is all new to you, I think the best way to start would be to give you our links to thyroid problems.
