I am a type 2 diabetic, 54 years old, and I asked my internist if I could see an endocrinologist just to have his opinion about glucose levels, and to see why they keep rising, even with meds, exercise, etc. Soooo, I went to the endo, and low and behold he finds a nodule! I had an ultrasound, and there it is... already 1 cm (why didn't the internist find it?)Anyway, I am scheduled for a fine needle biopsy Tuesday, the 21st. I know that these are not 100%. Blood tests are normal, the nodule is solid, there is only one. I am scared out of my mind!!!!! They give the usual party line that the majority are benign... is this true from everyone's experience? Please give advice! Thanks!

Hi pepper52,

Welcome to our board.

In answer to your question, yes, most of these nodules are benign.

Hi pepper52,

I am 50 yrs. old, i also had a nodule on my thyroid, mine was 5cm. I had it removed along with the right lobe of my thyroid, it turned out to be benign. I really wouldn't worry too much that it might be cancer.

Hope everything goes well for you.

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! Tomorrow is the FNA! Reults are revealed on Friday... I will keep all of you posted!

I just got back from the FNA, and there were calcifications on the thyroid and on the nodule. The endo did 4 samples, for 12 slides. I find out the results on Friday, but everything that I have read indicates that calcifications are cancer. Has this been the case for anyone, or the opposite?
