For the past 2-3 years, I have noticed a steady decrease in the quality of my voice. It's raspy sounding, sometimes I almost lose my voice and I can't even do karaoke anymore as I can't hit any notes like I used to. My daughter is in singing classes and I have already had her antibodies tested, nothing so far. Me, my sister and mother all have Hashimoto's Hypothyroiditis. Hereditary, obviously. This is why my 14 year old has already been tested. I don't want her to have the condition untreated like I did. I was in my 20s when they finally listened to me and tested me for hypothyroidism.
Have any of you had vocal issues and if so, did you go to an ENT doc or did your endo doc deal with it effectively? I sound like a New Jersey woman who's smoked Pall Malls unfiltered for 30 years....UGH!

Hi dogmom73,
Possibly the ENT might be the place to start.
I'm a professional singer and so am super aware of any problems with my voice. I keep feeling my speaking voice was husky so I had a voice scope and he said it was probably seasonal allergies as my chords looked healthy. I was also feeling a heat in my throat at the top of my windpipe.. It would come and go. I knew something wasn't right so I searched and found it was also a sign of hypothyroid. Sure enough I asked to be tested and found I have hashimotos. I'm on my 5th days of meds and as of yesterday I finally got up and my voice was clear and no 'heat' sensations.
A family member had similar problems with her voice and had polyps on her vocal cords, found by an ENT.
