vegetarians-gluten/soy thyroid effects?

I found something on line about wheat gluten and soy being bad for thyroid - but what if you are not allergic to it? I'm a vegetarian and I can't imagine going without my wheat gluten and soy products. Also reading stuff about coconut oil. Anyone know what's truth and what is myth? Thanks for any info!

Hello There D,
I was actually told by my D.O that soy is not good for patients with hypo.
He said it was ok to eat it once in a while.
Soy impairs the ability of the synthroid (if that's what ur taking) to absorb 100%.
I know that's hard to hear. I love tofu - and lots of products contain soy.
Hope that helps!
F.
Hi F,
Thank you so much for an answer! So if I can have mixed in stuff now and then (can't imagine giving up totally my Amy's Texas Veggie Burgers) I can handle that. Also now that you give me a clear answer I will avoid it early in the day, especially. Thank you so much for this info!!!
I switched to HEMP Chocolate milk today instead of the soy. A bit more fat but boy is it delcious, so I'm glad I discovered that. What do you know of the 'gluten' connection? I've never had trouble with it but I'm also reading it's best to avoid that too. I can't imagine my life without it. Are you a vegetarian? Do you just have Hypo or do you have Hashimotos? Feel free to email me at post2mehere@hotmail.com
Cheers!
D
My sister used coconut oil for her fibromyalgia. She had been taking oxycodone for a long time for her pain and heard about the benefits of coconut oil. She was able to discontinue her pain meds for a while, but the pain was not always relieved with the coconut oil. Now, she has another problem, the coconut oil has caused a significant weight gain! Take a look at the calorie content before truly starting coconut oil.
Good luck
www.tropicaltraditions.com is where I bought the 100% natural coconut oil--no added chemicals, etc.
ps-I'm also a vegetarian ..I follow the south beach way of eating, and can't imagine not having my wheat gluten!!!
My daughter HAS TO take supplements that would interfere with the absorption of thyroid medication.
it's interesting that everyone is on Sythroid. I'm on Armour. I just started. Only 15mg. They want to start me low and increase as needed. This is all new to me but I do feel better after the 1st week.
