i am in the process of finding a thyroid doctor. what kinds of things should i expect from treatment? if given meds will i have to be on them forever? it appears i have an enlarged thyroid- i've had 2 ultrasounds.

hi. my allergist sent me for 2 ultrasounds because he felt something. they show that i have several multinodular goiters. i called the endocrinologist he recommended today but they haven't called back yet. the more i'm reading i'm thinking i could be hypo. i'm definitely nervous! i'll write back when i have more info. thanks!

Hi pinklemonade,

If you got hard copies of your blood test results, that would also give you an idea if you're hypo or hyper.

hiya. my appointment was today. it stinks that i had to wait 3 months. they took 3 tubes of blood and on monday i should know if i have an underactive thyroid or a normal thyroid. my doc said if the former i would go on medication. if the latter i won't but i will then have 1 of my nodules biopsied. one has grown larger in a years time. if i need medication he is going to see if it'll shrink my nodules. if not i will get a biopsy at some point. so until monday i will try not to freak out. lol

It took a while but now you're on track to get more information about what is going on with your thyroid.

You can have normal results for the T3 and/or T4 and have the TSH not be in the normal range.

What dose of med are you on?
