TODAY the non-smoking ban.....

Goes in to effect in Florida. But someone has to actually complain about it for it to work..and most people smoke at The Pub or just dont care. There is a 500.$$ fine for the 1st offense. Also if someone complains about someone smoking--the manager has to ask the smoker to put it out--if they fail to comply we have to call the cops!!Well-thats what the law says anyhow..I think the police need to be doing more important things than THAT.. I cant wait to see how all of this un-folds over the next few months..It will be interesting..mel

I agree the police have more important things to do with their time. Yesterday they stopped smoking within one and a half metres of the bars in pubs and clubs in Sydney, there is already no smoking in restaurants! This is to become "law" in the future. Hec, I could have blown smoke that far into someone's face. In those places it will make no difference at all! The only way is to ban it completely where people congregate inside! and/or to provide designated places where people can go to smoke. Hilary

Will indeed be interesting to see how it turns out Mel. The no smoking ban in restaurants and public places here happened without a hitch. However, everyone who smokes just heads across the state line to restaurants friendlier to smokers.

Let's hope your work atmosphere gets a lot healthier for you. :)

Well here in CA there is no smoking anywhere public--so I don't eat out--I buy my dinner and bring it back to the hotel. On the Wharf there are restaurants and bars with outdoor sittings for the smokers--in NYC a whole bunch of private (5$ to join) clubs sprang up--the Grand Hyatt on 42nd st has a Cigar Bar/Restaurant (also private you pay 5$ to join for a year). So they do get around it. Alot of the airports went no smoking but the bigger ones ended up putting smoking rooms back in 'cause their international passengers raised a fuss. SFO does not have smoking but the gates are close to the outside and the areas are protected from weather.

In PA every restaurant has a smoking and non-smoking section and most have put in good ventilation systemsand I believe that is the best answer!!

Some day I'll quit but until then I do not eat or drink where I cannot smoke.(Sorry Hugs.Golly.and all of you who are braver/smarter than I).

Barb, don't know if you'll see this or not, but gosh, don't ever feel like you have to apologize for smoking...with us here. JMHO, of course I SWORE if I made this quit stick, I would NEVER be one of those yucky 'reformed' smokers.

If I was as spry and had the energy you have, I'd still be smoking, too. :::Running away from Hugs & Golly VERY quickly::: You are truly amazing me even MORE by your ability to go 'cross-country' every week....staying up for 23 hrs at a time....working long hrs.

We're all about getting fit n healthy here, and I think your months on the board, at home working in your garden, hopefully helped get you in better shape for this assignment.

I think all of us who are still coping with Nicodemon will agree that you are one VERY smart, brave lady who we admire greatly.

Hugs & Happy Fourth! Stella
