Adopting a new doggie from the shelter!

I hope everyone's Fourth was great! We had a little cookout and went to see fireworks. On the 3rd, we had gone to walk doggies at the shelter. We found a cute little terrier mix, female, a bit short of a year old, still very much a puppy, which had been picked up wandering around by the lake. She is very much in heat -- poor thing -- which could be why she wandered, y' think? Hmm. Or else someone dumped her when she went into heat. Who knows?
I've heard good things about terriers, that they're smart and are good with children. And not too big. This one was not up for adoption yet when we met her, but was to be available on the 5th.
Sooooo, I drove us over a little bit after the place opened on Saturday morning. She was still there, no one had come to claim her. And no one had come to adopt her yet. Of course she had only been available for about half an hour. I was relieved anyway. I was SURE someone would have been interested in her already had it not been the day after a major holiday.
I talked real seriously with the boys again, about whether this was THE dog. At the time, I couldn't imagine EVER finding another small dog like this, young, puppyish, trainable, but housebroken (I THINK), though I know there have been and will be plenty more :(
She's brown and white, short hair, and has a white tipped tail that goes NUTS when she's excited. She's so funny.
We are supposed to be there about noon tomorrow to pick her up, but will probably get there when they open just so we can play. She is already wearing her new collar and has a rawhide chew that we gave her. Can't wait!
Oh yeah, no smoking now for awhile! My last bout of insanity only lasted a day and a half. Yippee!

Good to hear from you and oh it does sound like there's been a bonding with that little terrior! She sounds wonderful and they seem like such intelligent, fun dogs. :) I hope it works out but if not, as you said, unfortunately there will be plenty more. :( What a good thing to do, walking the dogs at the shelter!

I think there is nothing like 'a boy and his dog'. And summer is a great time to get one...more time for the boys to learn their responsibilities and most important....to give him lots of TLC:)
Let us know what name you guys come up with **Stel**
