Adopting a new doggie from the shelter!

Good evening friends,

I hope everyone's Fourth was great! We had a little cookout and went to see fireworks. On the 3rd, we had gone to walk doggies at the shelter. We found a cute little terrier mix, female, a bit short of a year old, still very much a puppy, which had been picked up wandering around by the lake. She is very much in heat -- poor thing -- which could be why she wandered, y' think? Hmm. Or else someone dumped her when she went into heat. Who knows?

I've heard good things about terriers, that they're smart and are good with children. And not too big. This one was not up for adoption yet when we met her, but was to be available on the 5th.

Sooooo, I drove us over a little bit after the place opened on Saturday morning. She was still there, no one had come to claim her. And no one had come to adopt her yet. Of course she had only been available for about half an hour. I was relieved anyway. I was SURE someone would have been interested in her already had it not been the day after a major holiday.

I talked real seriously with the boys again, about whether this was THE dog. At the time, I couldn't imagine EVER finding another small dog like this, young, puppyish, trainable, but housebroken (I THINK), though I know there have been and will be plenty more :(

She's brown and white, short hair, and has a white tipped tail that goes NUTS when she's excited. She's so funny.

We are supposed to be there about noon tomorrow to pick her up, but will probably get there when they open just so we can play. She is already wearing her new collar and has a rawhide chew that we gave her. Can't wait!

Oh yeah, no smoking now for awhile! My last bout of insanity only lasted a day and a half. Yippee!

Yogi

Oh Yogi!

Good to hear from you and oh it does sound like there's been a bonding with that little terrior! She sounds wonderful and they seem like such intelligent, fun dogs. :) I hope it works out but if not, as you said, unfortunately there will be plenty more. :( What a good thing to do, walking the dogs at the shelter!

Oh Yogi!! That is wonderful about the pup. We got our pup from the shelter, and I know this sounds silly, but I think shelter pups are more loving because they know we WANT them.

Bet you can't wait till tomorrow!!

Oh, YOGI, wonderful news on the pup. Yup, Tracy's Reb and my Rusty both came shelters and look how cute they are on *our* site.

I think there is nothing like 'a boy and his dog'. And summer is a great time to get one...more time for the boys to learn their responsibilities and most important....to give him lots of TLC:)

Let us know what name you guys come up with **Stel**

I have no doubts that you will get there re the butts, Mel, just a question of time! As for pregnancies re the doggie, the first thing I did was have her spayed. She is not very happy right now! And though she'll never appreciate it, she is much better off without hormones controlling her life! About Indy, Mel, I live south and west of Indy. Muggy? It gets darn muggy here in the summer. This is the first year I have noticed just how much heat with humidity causes this body to just ache. I think I belong in the Arizona desert.

Cya!

Love,

Yogi

Hi Melanie, great to meet you! I'm sure she will be happier in a day or two. It's so sad to see her down like this (just spayed). She has this tail that you can usually hear 'wapping' against the sides of her body as she wags. So funny! But she's not doing that right now :(

I've heard good things about terriers. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Yogi
