I went to power up my Desktop PC and it blew--the power supply blew and fried my hard disk. Thank goodness I have a laptop. We are sending the hard drive to a recovery company ($125 just for evaluation). Although some of the data is backed up things like my email addresses etc. are not and I have a 30 gig drive and cannot find a way to back up the whole thing---ah PCs are not like mainframes--I have never failed to recover from a mainframe disaster without help from the outside!!!!!Hopefully they can recover most of my files/programs. Am going to try to find a good backup system. I have a very good UPS which protects from outside surges etc. but nothing can protect you from an internal disaster (like the power supply blowing)--in all the years (since the 70s) that I have had PCs I have never had something like this happen--I guess there is a first time for everything!!!!

Sounds like a disaster but that you've got a handle on it. Prayers and fingers crossed that you can retrieve most of your info.

Oh {{{Barb}}}
Thank goodness you do have your laptop, whew
Is this something that happens just cause or from old age or ..
Good to send it out for repair ..
If anyone can fix it *those* people can, LOL

**I guess you could say better now than at another time, right ..

Hate it when that stuff happens!
Hope they can help restore most of your stuff.
tracy
But to be honest, all that lingo is wayyyyyyyy over my head.
Dh's son built this computer, and if it *breaks*, I expect
he'll be the one to fix it. And at work, I leave all this
kind of stuff up to the computer guys who make the big bucks:)
I NEED to be more proficient with this *stuff*, but......
there are way too many things topping my list..LOL
But I KNOW that if ANYONE can fix it, you can:)

That is so funny yet so true! I wouldn't know squat about half the stuff I do if I didn't have to do it for work! LOL!
I hope that you can get all your files back Barb. I had a similar incident, only mine was self-inflicted. I was *cleaning* up my hard drive (getting rid of temporary files, cleaning out my caches, etc) & I accidently deleted *every* program on the dang computer. I mean, this thing only had "My Computer" & "Recycle Bin" on the desktop!! HA HA HA!! It was hilarious!
Lucky for me, I had everything *important* saved on my personal direction on the network! Whew!!
Much love to you Barb,
~DJ~
>No one is truly PC illiterate--anymore than you are microwave illiterate--or can opener illiterate--if you can use it for what you want than you are not illiterate.
**Sounds good to me. :) I just know that like the car, when I turn it on, I want it humming smoothly. I should be so lucky. ;)
