NO LEG workout anymore!

Hi:

I think I just need to vent a "little bit". As you know I been working out A LOT since I knew i had to lose 27lbs to join OTS. Theres a physical test - you have to run! I CAN RUN that distance - maybe even more! I am in GOOD SHAPE - i do cardio 40mins mon-fri, plus all the weight lifting!

But I havent been feeling good with my knees. I went to a doctor like two years ago, and he told me I need surgery. But I dont want to go through that - plus I now MANY CASES that they have to go into a 2nd 3rd surgery, so thats why I decided to wait and see what happened.

The pain comes and goes, when Im working out very hard - it hurts I slow down or stop then it gets good! No pain or anything at all. Thats another reason why I never wanted to go for surgery. Cause I think that if I dont put too much work in my knees I will be ok.

It been hurting a little bit - normal i think - but today It hurt when I was at the end of my workout so I stopped and came back home! Feeling totally depressed and down!

Thanks for listening!

Oh, hon I have felt your pain!! Please e-mail me & I'll be happy to let you know what has really helped. Briefly it's the KLT (knee to little toe) used in T-tapp. It helps to strengthen the muscles around the knee & re-habs it. It has helped me greatly.

BUT advice wasn't specifically asked for, so if this offends just ignore me!! Lord knows my kids do!!

Hugs!

Jo

Hi stargirl,

Glad you are able to vent here .. hope it helps :)

You sure sound like you are in good shape ..

Ouch on those knees though ..

So at times you need to slow down from doing what you are doing ..

Was the only option the doctor said surgery ..

If you don't do anything for several days do they act up right away again or what ..

There must be something you can do hon ..

>>Feeling totally depressed and down!

**Awww .. wish I could make it all go away for you ..

Just know we care and want to help anyway we can ..

Take it easy for now .. feel better :)

Awww! You can vent here anytime girlie!

I think that you did make a good decision on the surgery; especially if it meant having a 2nd or a 3rd surgery afterwards.

However, I would also recommend going *back* to the Dr. Maybe a different one this time.

Also, don't push yourself *too* hard girlie. We understand your frustrations & want you to succeed, but we don't want you getting hurt at the same time.

Keep us updated!

We love you!

Much love,

~DJ~

Hey Stargirl, It really does depend on what kind of surgery. Arthroscopic knee surgery is quite common and sometimes it is just a matter of cleaning out bits and pieces if you know what I mean and you are back on your feet in no time. Reconstruction of any kind is a different matter and that isn't much fun. I have a problem with my right kneecap not tracking properly, what a pain. Good Luck. Hilary

Aww Stargirl,

I'm glad you vented and I hope it made you feel a little better! Darn, I know about knee pain, not fun.

Just some thoughts:

Have you been to a Sports Medicine Dr? We have some big groups here-orthopedic surgeons with therapists too to make sure you strengthen the right muscles. I mention them because they look at joint injury quite differently than a regular or gp Dr.

Have you checked your shoes? Here's an interesting article.

I hope it gets to feeling better soon hon or that the Dr. can recommend something like a wrap to help.

Big hugs,

~Golly~

No, I havent seen a sports medicine doctor - I just saw a orthopedian?? Bone doctor?

Is that hows it called - my first language is spanish - so im not sure!

He told me the meniscus were tearing apart - from both knees!

I guess its time to stop or slow down all this work with my knees!!

Thank you all!!

P>S> I dont think my shoes are the problem - I just have a new pair of running shoes :P but its a very interesting article!

**Looks like you've covered the being checked by an orthopedic surgeon and new shoes. I was sure hoping it was something like worn shoes darn it. That would be so simple.

**It does sound like it till it gets better. Hope your Dr. has some exercises or some anti-inflamitory meds and exercises that might work.

Golly is right I feel, rarely wrong and right this time! You can get exercise programmes especially written for your problem. Ask them at the gym to give you one that takes the pressure of your knees so that you can continue towards your goal. Hilary

Hey thank you all for your advice:

I told my trainer about the knees, and today he gave me a couple of exercises, he told me lets see if your knee still hurts with this.

And it did :(

Time to take a new step into that!!

Thank you all for your support!
