Hi everyone!

I feel alot better now, and I'm woundering how many sit ups a day should I do to get that flat stomache I want? Thanks!

Hi snowhite,

Welcome to our board :)

>>I feel alot better now, and I'm woundering how many sit ups a day should I do to get that flat stomache I want?

**I would imagine you could work your way up to more and more ..

Depends how often you have already been doing them ..

Since you did your thirty and have recovered from your soreness ..

Try doing about twenty five and see how you feel the next day ..

After your stomach gets used to it I think they may not hurt anymore ..

Also then you can graduallly increase over time ..

I'm sure others here will also give you some great tips for that.

Hope you'll come back and join us here as we all travel the road to get *Fit & Healthy*

See you soon :)

Hi ivsnowwhite,

Welcome to the board. :)

>>Well, my boyfriend and I just got a sit up bench. The first night I did about 30 sit ups and I was sore for days in my abs

**Oh ouch I bet you were!

>> feel alot better now, and I'm woundering how many sit ups a day should I do

**I'm glad you do feel better! I think the best way to approach any change for our bodies is slow and easy or *baby steps* as we say to build up. :) I'm not sure on how many are needed for each muscle group around the ab area but perhaps Hugs can help you on that. :)

Here is one of many articles in iVillage on abs.

Other ab articles are mentioned at the bottom,

HTH

Enjoy those sit ups and I hope we see you here again. :)

Don't do them at night! A little known fact about muscle soreness is that when you are starting a new exercise regimen the best way to reduce soreness is to do it first thing in the morning. I know that you may feel tired when you are done and want to sleep, but if muscles go immediately to relax mode after getting a workout they will stiffen up quickly and cause soreness.

Another way to tone the abs before jumping right into sit ups is to use ankle weights. Wear them whenever you are on your feet - household crap, grocery shopping, etc - just not driving! You'll notice them tightening and strengthening very quickly. This method won't get you a "six pack", but it will get your abs ready for it if that's what you're looking for.

Thanks sliver. :) Another good idea. I'll have to find mine and start building up. I'd forgotten I have some.

Thanks Sliverpink! Weights are a great idea! We have a set of small weights around the house..somewhere! I'm going to use those with my sit ups, thank you for reminding me!
