I have a plan of attack!
| Thu, 07-31-2003 - 10:27am |
I just looked in my bag and I have exactly 10 cigarettes left. Based on my daily habits, the last one will be smoked around 7pm Friday night. Then I am done for good. My plan of attack? Everytime I have a craving I drink a bottle of Smartwater. This way I can re-train my brain and cleanse my body of all the yuckiness at the same time. I think being more aware of what is going on in my head each time I want a smoke is the key to quitting for good. As of 7pm Friday August 1st I'll be armed with Smartwater and gum - Nobody mess with me! LOL Thanks for all the support!

Yayyyyy, lol. Feel free to come vent, growl etc. ;D We all have .
Just some thoughts that might help. :)
Have you got a plan to stay busy during this time (esp. since it's the weekend). What will you do when ol'nic comes calling? Substituting water is excellent! Another good thing is exercise-go for a walk, do weights, or jumping jacks. Those craves often last for just a few minutes.
Another good thing to retrain your brain is everytime it thinks "I want a butt" or whatever is to immediately think of a positive to replace that nicotine thought.
And just a little suggestion (not that you asked, lol). Alcohol and smoking seem to go together so if you possibly can, stay away from the alcohol for a little while. I don't know how many quits I've seen ruined by it, but it's been a bunch. Later, you'll probably be fine with a drink and not a cig but at first it can make it really hard to stay smoke free.
We're here for you!!

A little *tip* that worked for me, when you DO go out for cocktails. Substitute those
little drink straws for the cig...works wonders. In the beginning, I would not only *puff* on them like a cig, I would also chew the heck out of them. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Good Morning Sliver. Loved your post this morning and while it is still a habit and not an addiction it is able to be controlled. I can remember when I started smoking -I had to work really hard to try and like smoking - everyone else seemed to enjoy it, and within two weeks I was hooked. If you have the choice of not going there.....what can I say DON'T SMOKE. You're not going to and that is great! Hilary
