Is or has anyone tried this drug to help you quit smoking? If so, I'd like to hear all about it. Good or bad. I just started today, I really need to quit. I have a 2.5 year old and asthma. So far today i've had maybe 2 cigarettes. I was going to try Zyban, but it's pricey, this one is covered. thanks.

Hi, Robin.reta, and welcome to our board. My name is Stella, and I just

happened to come take one last peek before bed and saw your post.

Your martini glass brings to mind one gal on this board, Mel, who has

tried Wellbutrin in the past. It's EXACTLY the same as the Zyban...so

don't worry about that. Insurance cos will cover the Wellbutrin because

it is also considered an anti-depressant....which just *happens* to help

tons of folks with nicotine cravings

Mel liked it. To be honest, it made me too jittery, but I have a

chemical make-up that reacts that way. Sure wish I COULD take it...

it can REALLY help. I have real-life friends who have quit with the

help of Wellbutrin. Plus...some folks get a little 'down in the

dumps' when trying to quit...so the Wellbutrin helps with that, too.

Just go by the instructions....think you're supposed to continue to

smoke for a week or so, before going cold turkey....isn't that right?

Again, glad you stopped by, and check back soon...I'm sure others will

have more to say on the subject. Possibly one of the cl's can give

you a link to a site with more info on the wellbutrin. I say....give

it a shot! You're doing the right thing with your child and your

asthma...you know that:) It's not easy, but it can be done.

Hi Robin,

Welcome to our board and congratulations on quitting smoking! I used the patch to quit but perhaps someone here knows about wellbutrin. I think it's the generic name for zyban and insurance will often cover it but won't zyban. Hope you join us here on your journey to be quit, fit and healthier. :)

Good Luck,

Hi Robin and welcome :)

Congrats on wanting to quit smoking. Many of us here have quit.

I personally used the Wellbutrin and loved it, LOL

It really helped as far as cravings and mood swings.

Take as diredted and quit smoking altogether after taking it for about 10 days or so ..

Also, please check out our webiste which is on the front of this board when you open it ..

Called *Healthy Habits* It has some great stop smoking tips, information on it ..

It should also have more information on the Wellbutrin.

Sure hope you decide to come back often and share how you're doing with your quit ..

You'll find many of us understand exactly what you'll be going through ..

Also know you will find lots of support and encouragement right here..

Hope to see you again soon ;)

Personally, I'm still a smoker. *Slaps her wrist* "Bad girl!!!"

But a friend of mine, who just wanted to stop smoking because her boyfriend did, took Wellbutrin and it worked like a charm. However, as soon as they brokeup, she went right back to smoking again. So, as long as you're doing it because YOU want to (and need to, as your case my be), it should work just great! I say "Go for it!" because I give much respect to someone who sets out to do something and gets it done, or at least tries very hard to. :-)

I took Wellbutrin for depression two years ago, but haven't had any experience with it for quitting smoking. I had a great experience with it. The reason it's used to aid in the quitting of smoking is that it assists your body in creating and permanently maintaining its own chemical balance. Withdrawal symptoms from smoking trigger similar chemical imbalances as depression. It eases the withdrawal by balancing you, so you don't have the urge to puff for the balance. Best part: it helps the body fix itself so you're not dependent on it for life.

Hi robin,

Great to see you here again :)

It definitely takes almost the whole two weeks to get the Wellbutrin into your system.

Also know that when you stop smoking .. it works kind of suttle .. IMHO ..As far as the cravings go .. It does not take them away altpgether .. but it just helps a lot.

Some people start smoking less after taking it awhile as they make them taste bad too.

Hope to see you again soon hon :)

I have been on wellbutrin for a month now. I am also on the patch. I only take the wellbutrin in the am. i take the 150 mg SR ( sustained release0 > I had tried it before when I quit smoking another time--but AT THAT TIME--there was NO sustained release--which streches the dose out more evenly. I also was taking it 2 x a day b4. I dont now cuz it gave me BAD insomnia. So far its been helpful.,I have had NO side effects and I am starting week 4 of my quit!!! xoxo Mel
