I posted this in a different topic...two by accident...no responses...
Hello all...I recently turned 20 years old, and have been on an emotional roller coaster ride over the past year. To sum it up I live with my boyfriend and we've been dead broke for the past 3 months...but I am so exhausted all the time. I'd like to be a happy and busy little 20-year old...but I can't seem to get there. I get my 8 hours of sleep, sometimes more...but I can't seem to break the trend. I would like to be exercising and eating extremely well...and learn to grow and see and experience things. Any suggestions on how I can get off my tired butt and start to be the cute little energetic happy girl in my head? Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Hi gtpwmn98,
Welcome to the board. :)
>>I am so exhausted all the time. I'd like to be a happy and busy little 20-year old...but I can't seem to get there
**I'm so sorry about your exhaustion hon. That's not fun anytime but especially at 20. There's so many things that might cause that, it might be good to check with a Dr don't you think? If finances are a problem, call your County Health Dept. and ask where you might go to get checked out. :)

**Sounds like you're getting enough sleep-that's good. :) How about setting very small goals for just one day and check them off as you do them. Perhaps you might start with 5 minutes of walking somewhere or parking the car farther away than normal. And for eating, start with the goal of a healthy breakfast, cereal, low fat milk and perhaps a fruit or melon. :) And then again set small goals for just the next day.
One thing that has helped us all is to be accountable by writing down what we do daily in the *Exercise folder*. :) Perhaps you'll join us on your journey to be and feel fit and healthy. :) Perhaps others will have some good suggestions. You can do it. :)

**Well how about you and your BF start taking some walks together ..
That's a start you know .. we call that *baby steps*
Also try to get out of the house more ..
Go to a park .. skip, do things that make you feel like a kid again
As for healthy eating .. try some healthy snacks.. popcorn is a great one!
Try fruits and veggies too ..
Also know that what you are going through will hopefully pass sooner than later ..
Look for the light at the end of the tunnel ..
When you start doing more for you .. you will feel better ..
That in turn will perhaps help with you feeling happier ..

I purchase the Body for Life fitness journal the other day in hopes it will help keep me motivate to lose some weight. I will definately take into consideration all the tips you have given. My only concern now is that I won't stay motivated long enough to make myself feel better. In the past when I tell myself that I'm going to lose some weight and start working out...it lasts max 3 weeks and then for some reason I whimp out...I think because I dont see any results yet and get discouraged. Any suggestions on how I can help myself make a long term change and stick with it?? I would appreciate that as well!!
Thanks
Love!!!
Hi there,
>>I purchase the Body for Life fitness journal the other day in hopes it will help keep me motivate to lose some weight.
Good to see you back! You sound like you're on the right track in making a serious commitment. :) The nice thing about journaling, either in a home book journal or here in the *exercise and more* folder is that even if you write down you didn't do well, it serves as a self reminder to do so the next day. I found I got sick and tired of writing down that it wasn't a good day for me so started to change that (usually lol).
The only thing I know on making those long term changes is to just look at short terms-one day at a time. Somehow that's not so overwhelming. Sort of like
"Today I will drink my water, exercise and not eat any junk food."
Hope we see you again as we share this journey and help eachother. :)

I totally know where you're coming from with that statement! Happens to me ALL the time!
The thing that works for me is a buddy system--when others depend on you, it's harder to
"whimp out" and you feel obligated to go, even when you don't want to. And you know what? Once you get past that 3 week period, and you start doing it for 4 weeks, 5 weeks, etc...it becomes a part of your weekly routine, and you start to not feel right without it!!!
My best friend and I go walking. She used to be heavy, too, but she lost about 80 lbs. in under a year, all on her own. Now she goes with me to walk in the mornings because 1) she's an AWESOME friend, and 2) she needs to walk still, to keep her metabolism going and also because, as I said, she feels weird not going after so long of waking up to walk early in the AM.
I wish you luck! Keep going and try hard. :-) You'll get into the swing of things and feel lots better!!!

Thanks for the encouragement and input Ri. :)

**Well you could start by making yourself accountable here
Check in with us on just about everything
As you know it becomes a liftstyle change ..
when you want to do it bad enough ..
You will committ and stick with it ..
Then when you see results that will also become your motivation to stick with it ..
