Mae - - it's okay to want one. Don't beat yourself up about Wanting one. The thing is tho that you don't have to indulge your "want"....you want lots of things but that doesn't mean you have to have them.
So, like Stel said - - GO FOR A WALK - - and think about how clean your lungs are going to be getting and all the good stuff that is going to come about with this quit. Health and FREEDOM from that dang cig. That freedom from nic is the best gift you can ever give yourself.
Thanks ladies!!!!!!! I did go for a short walk...I'm doing better now...Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Mae, just got to the end of the thread and YOU DID IT! Phew :) Sorry, slept through your walk, walking is just about the best for making a girl feel better. Keep it up. Hil
As for the substituting....I'm afraid I'm gonna gain weight...I haven't stopped eating all morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I do gain weight, I have a sinking feeling I won't keep my quit...You all are going to have to threaten me or something!
Mae, you surely don't need us to talk about why it's more important to quit EVen if you gain a few pounds do you???(vbg)
This is your first day. Give yourself a break today. You know, the thing I did was with those stupid cheerios. Because for me, it was really just a hand mouth thing...virtually Anything could be stuffed in the mouth because hunger was not the issue - - just jitters and anxiety. I kept those little baggies of cheerios that I would eat one at a time....it wasn't that I loved cheerios, just that when I had to "hand-mouth" it, the cheerios were something that I could eat that actually was good for me and not Too many calories.
The straw works well for a 'sitting at the desk' crave. I found the BEST thing was to get moving....I know you are at work and just can't get up and run around the office (or can you?(lol)) BUT, the exercise REALLY helps relieve the stress.
You do NOt HAVE to gain weight. BUt if you do, deal with that down the road a bit. Right now the Most important thing is that you are becoming smoke free. Remember to be Kind to You right now. Just get through today in whatever way you can. Don't cloud your head with other changes right now.... we just want to go today without a cig.

Just keep munchin' on those carrots...and do you like celery? That's good to bring to work, too:) And workin' the barn & Brave every evening will keep you from gaining!!!!
My FAV's are from McDonald's. They hold up very well..rofl Go by & grab ya a bunch if there is one on the way home. Or...if that's too much temptation, ask a friend to get you some to bring tomorrow. I swear....I've got a coffee stirrer in my mouth right this minute. Folks just get used to ya....they won't laugh...yes you may look a bit funny at first, but hey, they'll understand. And the MickeyD ones you can puff on just like a cig **EDIT ~ Forgot to say, cut them in half..or folks really MIGHT laff at ya
Great news Mae! :) Don't forget, most of those craves only last about 5 minutes so picture yourself *riding the crave wave* (humm, who said that originally? ). I used to actually time them, sort of like timing birth contractions . You're doing great hon!
