Foot and ankle KILLING me!

Hi all. What does a stress fracture feel like? I can barely stand on my foot right now. The run I did today was the last straw. When I put weight on it or flex my toes, I have pains shooting across the top of my foot, and lots of pressure in the ankle.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, how did you heal it and how long did it take?

Thanks

Hi Shortie,

Welcome to the board. :)

Gosh hon, I'm sorry you have such a painful foot. I have fractured bones in my foot and for about a day, was able to walk on it. Then there was no way I could put any pressure on it at all.

I think it might be a good idea to have a Dr. check it out. Sprains and stress fractures can be quite painful but also the pain can be eased by either the right wrapping, cast or boot. Our feet have to carry us a long time so worth being certain they're not going to give us trouble later on don't you think? Perhaps others here will have some input. :)

Hope it feels better soon.

I am sorry that I won't be much help as far as if it's a fracture ..

Perhaps others here will be able to give you some tips.

I suggest if it's not better soon you try to go see your doctor ..

Hi, Shortie, and welcome ~

This "does" sound familiar to me as I've had 'off & on' feet problems for years now.

I would DEFINITELY suggest going to your doc to get it x-rayed. Depending on your

internist, he might refer you on to a podiatrist (foot doctor). IF your insurance

allows, you may just want to pass on the internist, and go to the podiatrist.

Just a non-athlete's 2 cents worth~

Good luck, and I'd be interested in knowing what you find out:)

An athlete's perspective....you won't know if it's a stress fracture unless you get professional help, so you might as well make an appointment to see a doctor of some sort. I agree that you can't be too careful with your feet and ankles, I know too many older people who can't run and have pain walking because of injuries or surgeries that didn't heal right. Depending on what it is, it could take several weeks to heal. If you try to hurry the healing, you can actually prolong it to something that nags you for months, so your best bet is to get professional help with it before you try to run again.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies, and the nice welcome to this board! I am seeing the doctor today (for a different reason), and will try to get a referral to a podiatrist while I'm at it.

Sigh...I know I should stay off the foot, but I hate to stop my activity, especially as the holidays approach. BUMMER!

OK, I'll check in later with the diagnosis

Hi again all-- well, here's the story: the doctor referred me to a podiatrist. So I'll go asap.

Anyone want me to ask him any questions while I'm there? (That is, if there's anything pressing? I think I am entitled to ask one or two extra things)

Thanks again for your support-- I need "support!" hopefully not a cane!!!!!!!

{{Shortie}}

Bless your heart for reporting back! So often we're left wondering.

Here's hoping all you need is a wrap and a rest for awhile. :)

Questions? humm...depending on what he says, how long does it usually take to heal or feel better? And, what can you do while it is healing? That's all I can think of. :)

If you're able to walk on it though somewhat painful, I think that a good sign. But we're sure all different on such. Still thinking positive thoughts. Maybe when you're through all this, you can join us here on our journey to getting fit and healthier!

Thanks for reporting back. :)
