Nutrition Tip

Lighten the calories of your pasta meal by using spaghetti squash. When prepared, the spaghetti squash actually resembles a plate of spaghetti. Rich in fluids (92% water), carbohydrates, fiber, potassium, Vitamin C, and pantothenic acid (a B vitamin), spaghetti squash makes an ideal low-calorie entree that's still filling when topped with your favorite sauces. Compared to traditional spaghetti, you will save 100 calories per cup.

Fitness Tip

Shin Splints. Those pains that run along the front of the lower leg are a common malady for beginning runners and walkers due to the weak tibialis anterior muscles. There a few exercises you can do to strengthen that muscle. For instance, write the letters of the alphabet with your big toe while your leg is extended. Flex and point your foot a number of times while twisting with the ankle. Walk on your heels for 10 seconds, eventually working up to 30 seconds. And, make sure you stretch the shin area every single time after your exercise.

Thanks Stel,

Great tips. I actually have used the spagetti squash a few times instead of pasta but dh thought about as much of it as you do tofu . I think it more a mental thing in what we're used to. ;D

Tried the alphabet exercise and wow, I could feel the muscles working as I did it.

Thanks again hon. :)

** :X ok, not laughing. ;) Hey, I've watched her cooking more than a few times.

I've just used a good red sauce on it but that does sound interesting the way she does it.

We all know how I am loathed to be "nice to Stel" BUT thanks mate for the shin splint exercises. Sometimes when I slack off at the gym for a week or so which is not very often those muscles can cause a little trouble. Great advice.

I have seen spaghetti squash quite often but never cooked it. Might just give it a go seeing as Chef Stel roflmao suggested it! Hilary
