Here is the problem with dieting. I am Puerto Rican and in my house we eat P.R. spanish food. We're talking about white/orange rice, beans, chicken, lots of starches. I don't mind cutting down, but I love spanish food. I try to search for dieting for a spanish appetite but I find no solution. If I could get any advice It would be great

Hi Les and welcome to the board. :)

I've eaten a few of those wonderful Cuban/PR meals in FL. Yummy. ;) I love the black bean/yellow rice combos. The fish and black beans are really healthy for you though as could be brown rice. ;)

My suggestion would be to either substitute (spray oil instead of pouring, a good veggie instead of some carb) and/or really watch your portion sizes. Also, if using like hamburger, after cooking it up, rinse off the fat that's cooked out. With chicken, don't use the skins or after cooking, collect and discard the fat.

Or perhaps you could have just one day (a day off from *being good and eating healthy) and enjoy it as you have-just for that day. :) Sometimes we defeat ourselves I think by making it seem like we're depriving ourselves. If we know that once a week, we can have what we want, it just doesn't seem so hard. jmho. :)

I couldn't find any Spanish recipes either but perhaps others will have some good ideas and I'll look some more. Hope to see you again. :)

Hi les and welcome :)

**Sounds like you are on the right track hon by trying to cut down.

How about having smaller portions, not as much, not as often ..

Perhaps even substituting some of this for that If you know what I mean ..

Meaning using more lowfat items to cook with and anything else that can be substituted.

Perhaps others will be able to give you some better ideas, so do check back soon :)
