Hi darkmuffin,

Nice to see you here. :)

>>help me out please before i look like arnold!

**lol, we all seem to recognize his name easily now. :)

>>here is my quetion: am i going to gain bulky muscle? ive read some articles that say no and others that say yes. help! i work out pretty hard and like it but i would hate to look like a she-man.

**There always seems to be a lot of conflicting advice doesn't there? I would think it would depend on how heavy those weights are or resistance is and how intensely you do work out. Your best bet I think is to just really look at yourself (perhaps take pictures) perhaps once a week to see how you really do look as you go along. Also, I hope you have a friend or two who honestly would tell you on that. Ones who aren't into bulking up either to win Ms. Muscles Am. ;)

Have just been looking around iVillage about your post (it is something that interests me as I do lift weights regularly) Under Diet and Fitness Weight Training there is lots of really helpful information. I tried to copy and paste the link but it didn't work. It really is so important to know exactly what you are doing in a weight room. Hilary

**Thank you Hugs, I am doing a lot more in the weight room now and was really interested looking around. It is so easy to hurt yourself if you don't have a trainer nearby. Amazing how much stuff is on iVillage when you actually spend time investigating! Hil

Arnold had to take anabolic steroids to look like that! Trust me--you don't have enough testosterone in your body to make you bulky, that's where that comes from. Steroids mimic testosterone, which is why weightlifters take them to get bigger and why women who take certain types of steroids find that they have more body hair, acne, and vocal changes (permanent).

In order to gain bulk, you would need to be doing sets of 3-5 reps at such a weight that you can't do more than 3-5 reps. More than likely, you're probably doing sets of 10-15, right? That's going to give you more endurance, not so much bulk and power. Personally I do weights 2-3 times a week, usually three sets of 15 for legs, three sets of 10 for upper body, as I'm trying to get stronger and more developed, but I'd like to increase a little mass on top.

Keep lifting and enjoy yourself! Women with muscles are beautiful....

Sounds like my regime.I do my cardio -then to an express work-out.a line of macines that works the bod head to toe. I do heavy weights w/ low reps to tone. You are supposed to do one or two sets to failure.Yes on letting those muscles rest..but keep up the cardio!1 mel
