I envy girls who can "run" but it is interesting to know that ...

A mile of walking burns about as many calories as a mile of running. It just takes longer. Walking offers certain weight control advantages as well. I didn't realise that half of your body's fuel comes from body fat when you walk. During a run, less than a third of the calories you burn come from fat.

;) Think I will stick to walking on the treadmill from now on, much easier on my knee. Hilary

**So true, walking is much easier on the old joints I think. ;)

"" I will stick to walking on the treadmill from now on, much easier on my knee. Hilary""

Exactly - - this is why I walk! I often have the strength and desire to run but my knees won't let me.....good to know it's about the same in the end.

thanks hil,

>> but my knees won't let me

**It really irks me the trouble I have with my right knee. I had surgery on it when I was a kid and I knew that one day it would come back to haunt me.

Yesterday the head trainer gave me a couple of exercises to do. No gym today, it really hurts but hopefully after doing the exercises the muscle will strengthen and it should be fine. The reason I ride the bike every day is to strengthen the muscles around my knee. It is working quite well but these two new exercises should make things even better. Hilary

Well then I've GOT to get a bike!! I thought about it but thought it might Aggravate my knee pain. I know I should strengthen those muscles, but I wasn't sure the bike would do that for me. Hmmm!! Maybe I'll try one out next time we are out and see what it feels like. Thanks Hilary.

And walking allows you to enjoy the sights around you. I admire people who run but could never get into it myself. Anyone here do spinning classes? I went a few times but that really hurts my knees. Normal cycling doesn't hurt but the spinning is brutal. I never had knee surgery but years of water and snow skiing took their toll on my poor ole' knees.

**I do spin Cappy but keep the bike at no more than 6/12 and below (sometimes higher but only for a short time), otherwise it does hurt and is not worth it. You are right, it is brutal and the trainers get this nasty little gleam in their eyes when they put 45 minutes on the bikes!! Have to admit I love it though :) Hilary
