I really want to go to the gym,but I did something to my lower left back/hip area.Iwas at work and it just REALLY started to hurt.I didnt lift anything heavy--but I was bending a lot.I have NEVER ( knock-on -wood) had a back problem..but I am gonna take it easy today.Ive got a long shift tomorrow and need to feel good. I was thinking that working out MIGHT help it---But knowing MY luck it would get worse!!!So I will tackle the laundry instead( not the easiest job either..but I dont see anyone here begging to do it!LOL!!And after that I will take it as slow as I can...mel

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. I do have back problems in my lower back I do not recomend laundry I think it is the worst task for back troubles. I recomend laying as still as possible on a semi-hard flat surface. I usuall lay on a sleeping bag on the floor. The last time it happened to me I was stuck on the floor for two weeks taking heavy doses of percocet and valume. WHOO hooo that was fun (not). But I think you definately need to rest and relax your back as much as possible. As for the laundry make them darn kids do it. or at least theirs. I also found the a heating pad or if you dont have one like me I take a kitchen towel wet it fold it up put it in a ziploc bag and microwave it till very warm wrap it towel and try that. here are some big hugs and warm thoughts to help you out today!!!! ~Mary~

Psoas muscle! My favorite muscle to give me trouble, because it hurts so darned bad! Do you have a tight spot up high in your groin too? This muscle attaches at your groin and about your belt line or so in your lower back, and if you do too much bending it can cause the muscle to spasm, which in turn yanks on those vertebra in your back, and it starts affecting more and more parts and pieces until you can get it to stop. My chiropractor fixed it for me (one visit) the last time it happened--I can have it act up even just by sitting cross-legged on the floor and reaching for something. You should rest it, though. Try to avoid putting all your weight on one leg. 20 minutes of ice may help more than heat, as it will reduce the inflammation, and maybe some Aleve (better than Tylenol or Advil for inflammation). But if you've got a chiro, I always recommend that first! ;)

Hope it feels better! If it doesn't, don't be afraid to seek help...

Gosh Mel, I'm sorry about your back.

I think I'd rest it hon and not lift that washing etc. Maybe supervise each kid to do their own, a very needed skill for them anyway.

Try some aleve for shrinking any inflamation and since you do have long hard days when you work, you might want it checked out by your Dr. or a chiro. if it bothers you.

Gentle hugs,
