How about this. I would have thought and bought (and do buy) socks made of 100% natural fibres BUT I read this tonight....

When hiking, the type of socks you wear is as important as a pair of good-fitting boots.

The best way to keep your feet comfortable and dry is to wear socks made of synthetics, such as acrylic, or a blend of wool or alpaca and synthetic fibres, says the Wellness Letter of the University of California, Berkeley.

Avoid the 100 percent cotton varieties, since cotton absorbs sweat and will leave your feet moist and more likely to develop blisters, fungal infections, and odor. YUK!!

Equally important is getting the right fit. If possible, try socks on before you buy them.

Mind you I don't necessarily believe everything I read , but then who am I to say HA!

Veryyyy interesting Hil. Our family has always used silk socks under wool ones.
But then it's usually pretty cool where we've hiked.
I'll have to check some of our camping stores to see what they're offering now. :)

Oh my yes on appreciating the creature comforts after a trip like that. I remember feeling sooo dirty lol.

Age does change things. ;) Last few years we've gone up in the mountains, we've stayed in a comfortable motel a few thousand feet down from the mountain tops.
We eat a great breakfast, head up by car, stay all day and muck around, come down to a great dinner and a nice soft bed. :D My kinda camping. :)
