How about this. I would have thought and bought (and do buy) socks made of 100% natural fibres BUT I read this tonight....

When hiking, the type of socks you wear is as important as a pair of good-fitting boots.

The best way to keep your feet comfortable and dry is to wear socks made of synthetics, such as acrylic, or a blend of wool or alpaca and synthetic fibres, says the Wellness Letter of the University of California, Berkeley.

Avoid the 100 percent cotton varieties, since cotton absorbs sweat and will leave your feet moist and more likely to develop blisters, fungal infections, and odor. YUK!!

Equally important is getting the right fit. If possible, try socks on before you buy them.

Mind you I don't necessarily believe everything I read , but then who am I to say HA!

the group wins hands-down!

**Wow Judie,I admire your fortitude!

There are groups around Sydney that do day walks and longer but when I made inquiries they put "age" restrictions on them. This is not a problem for me as such but dh is over 60 and for some reason they restrict that age group from the type of walks I would like. He would not attempt to stop me, but he would not like me getting involved either. On the other hand walks for the "over 60", well, I really am fit even for my age so....and if I am honest I guess the age difference between us does creep in a little here.

Thanks again, I really enjoyed reading your post :))) Hilary

No more *nature* stuff for this gal

**Agree Hugs, no-where without running hot water and a good bed for me either. Some of the walks are organized between hotels and they sound good to me. Eat a buffet breakfast, walk to a set up lunch stop, and then on to the next hotel in the evening, or a bus to take you there

When the Sydney to Tasmania ferry starts up next year we are going to take the car and go down. There are wonderful walking trails all over Tasmania so........ Hilary
