I know we have lots of new members and literally tons of lurkers reading each day . If they were to ask us how/where to start to get fit and healthy, what would you tell them ?

That is good question...Lisa. When my doctor told me to start with the regular exercise and keep the weight down, I figured I would start with a simple one because I do not like the other types and going to the gym was not for me. Start with a simple walking, because that is how I started. Later on I wanted to do more but that was 8 months later, then I walked with Leslie Sansone. Then I kept adding because I was reducing and able to do more.

I would tell them to start slowly,
Find something they love to do ..
Whether it be walking, at a gym or DVD's
So many options .. allows for less excuses :)

My advice would be to make small changes. Don't try to clean out your house of all junk food ! Do it over time. Try starting out making one meal a day healthier : ) If you get overwhelmed, you are less likely to stick with it!

Add one easy thing and build from there.

Don't think you can totally re-vamp your diet and start training for a marathon on the same day!

Baby steps until one is ready and the steps are too easy and one wants to do a little bit more. At least that is how I did everything. I never cut out anything or stopped any of my favorites...just reduce. I told my neighbor I eat kettle chips everyday and she was kind of stunned, but I told her I portion them then stop.

Another good one is I used to tell my neighbor I do upper body workouts and she would tell me .."that is exercise and I do not want to exercise, just walk". Now it is a week later from last week and she is working on her upper arms.
