Counting Your Calories

by Hilary Walke

How many times have we all tried to cut back calories? While we’re all aware of the straightforward fact that consuming fewer calories leads to weight loss, this strategy is more important than just the no-brainer method it seems to be. We took our users’ top questions about calories and spoke to iVillage diet and nutrition expert, Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom, to find out what’s for real and what’s just hype.

Very interesting Nadine.

My neighbors are so into the anti carb...they are into protein only.
I will look for reduced fat peanut butter. I just have not eaten any because of the scare. I tried almond butter and that was delicious.
About salads...it is true. My swhusband said salad is not fattening ...it is what you put on it. He uses lemon juice.
My neighbor used to drink coffee with La Chera cream, now uses flavored sweetners. The LC cream was more in calories.
I love Breyers Ice Cream and knowing that it is better than lowfat frozen yogurt is even better news.
I munch on almonds, but small portions at a time.

I have become pretty adept at reading labels and finding good "Calorie Bargains"
I like our local golden spoon frozen yogurt - only 110 cal for an 8 oz serving,
But..... lots of goodies available to put on it. You need to avoid all those.
Interesting on the peanut butter, I don't each much,
But the dry PB just sounds wrong IMHO!
