a favorite poem (by Veronica A. Shoffstall) I'd like to contribute to Wednesday Wisdom.
After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't always mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much so you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure you really are strong you really do have worth and you learn and you learn with every goodbye, you learn...
Thanks for sharing that one! I remember finding it for a friend going through a tough divorce last year. It has so much good advice, We each had a copy on our desks and read it daily!
Well..this one was good for me. At the time I started exercising, I was deciding which one to do at the time that was easy for me. I was not into aerobics or running, etc., so I started walking. Now that I am good, I realize that NOW I can do a little jogging, biking, etc., if I wanted to. Like everyone here said, it takes time for us to continuously workout and get our bodies used to the movements then we can do other things.
I think my neighbor who started walking in Jan but not consistently like me did not do that. The neighbor thought that after a few months of walking that her body was ready for dancing. She reinjured her back and needed shots for the pain. It is strange that if you tell someone in that kind of condition they should just walk and be careful and it takes time. But we are always in a hurry and assume we walk and that we feel better to do things right away.
Many of the people I know don't stick with the walking either. Like you said they want immediate results. They don't look at it like a long term solution. I credit walking with keeping me looking so young, And with keeping my blood pressure and blood sugar levels within normal range. My family has a long history of illness, So far I'm the only walker, and the only one who isn't on medication. ::knock wood::
Hats off to you Liz and cheering you on! That is great news not to be on medication. Between walking and medications, I would rather walk myself. Ummmm....I am walking. I do agree with you everyone wants things to be done

And living in the moment helps us with that.
I do like the others and this one is nice...
