Ever hear of da Vinci surgery?

I went to the gyn-oncologist yesterday.  He will be doing the surgery to remove the cancer by using robotics.  I was offered the abdominal surgery (long incision on the belly) or what is called a da Vinci hysterectomy.  There will be 5 small incisions.  There are so many advantages, I can't remember them all.  Since at this time, I have the option, I chose the less invasive.

The robot works through the doctors hands.  It's quite interesting.  Seems like something Hollywood would come up with...lol

The hospital stay will be overnight as long as all goes well. The recovery time is shorter too, since you don't have the healing of the long wound to deal with.  We were given so much information and plenty of time for questions.  His team is great and dh and I both feel much more comfortable with everything.

So I will go in on the 12th of August to have it all done.  Then recovery should be about 4-6 weeks.  No lifting, vaccuming, long walks, etc.  Driving is okay once I am off of narcotics for pain.  The nurse said they have some really kicking good ibuprophens to follow the narcotics though.

So I have a couple of weeks to get my butt moving into some degree of fitness....lol.

Thanks ladies.

I have heard that it is a wonderful alternative to traditional hysterectomy.
I'm glad your doctor is confident that the less invasive treatment would work for you.
Good luck with your surgery!

The da Vinci sounds so much better, I've never heard of it. Medicine is always making such incredible advances. Best wishes for total success and a rapid but relaxing recovery.

I talked to my neighbor's husband this morning. It's been 7 weeks since her surgery and she's doing great! He said the cancer was contained and they got it all with the da Vinci. She doesn't even need chemo or radiation. Keep your chin up, you'll do great too!
