It's very rare that I have to throw any foods out. I plan well, make enough for left overs and we eat it all.

Not too much. Dh takes his lunch so any left overs get sent with him. Sometimes I forget and things get pushed to the back and not found for a bit. Those I throw out. Julie's comment about bread is true of us also. I buy bread to make dh sandwiches if no left overs available. I rarely eat bread. So some bread gets thrown out. Making bread pudding is an excellent idea but I love it so I'd eat way too much! LOL...best not to even tempt myself. Lately I've found some bread companies are making half loaves...Orowheat and one other I can't remember. Those are great for just 2 people as long as they're whole wheat or a dark bread. I never get white bread.

I hear you about the bread. You can also break up the bread and freeze the pieces until you have enough for a small side of stuffing or to use in a strata. You can freeze whole slices and then thaw if you want to make french toast, too. If you feel it's been in the freezer for too long for your use, you can thaw and crumble it and throw it out as a treat for the birds. For the bread pudding, which I also love, try using low fat milk and Splenda for a lower fat and sugar-free version. It's not half bad.

I voted nothing goes to waste. It should be very little goes to waste. If I haven't used what leftovers I have in the fridge in a few days, DH and I go through and freeze meats and veggies for soup. I put leftovers in gallon freezer bags and just keep adding to them until there is a full one. When we are ready for soup we just decide what needs to be added to the bag we are using and that's the kind of soup we are having that day. I also freeze the juices left from stewing chicken, from pot roast, from boiling shrimp, etc. to use as flavorings and stock. The thing I throw away the most is salad from the bag, which has gotten pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten. That happens to some sauces, too. All in all though, not much goes to waste.

Hope you find your Mom's recipe soon :)

Oh you are good Bev,
Wow love the idea of putting things in a baggie, freezing it & using for soup.
Hadn't thought of that .. good one to remember.
Am glad you're good
The bagged lettuce never lasts too long.
We were buying that too.
Back to head of although that too goes bad at our house :)
