i'm a compulsive snacker and need advice

i have incredible self-discipline concerning most things in my life, but if there is a snack around that i like, i think about it until it's all gone - and most of the time that means i eat all of it! i've tried relying solely on my own discipline, and while i believe that is the best way, lately that has been slipping a bit. i've also tried keeping a rubber band around my wrist and snapping it whenever i thought about snacking, but apparently that didn't bother me haha. and i don't live in my own apartment anymore, i live with my parents, so the "no snacks in the house" option won't work because my parents are snackers, too! and they just don't care. i do care, and i need to stop munching. any advice???

i thank you, but i do eat only healthy snacks! i just eat too much! i'm a vegan, and i'm extremely conscious of what i put into my body. however, my father likes to snack on almonds and so do i, and if i bake something tasty for my family i tend to eat most of it. if i were to stop baking things, my mom would notice and would ask me to bake again. and i've told my father to hide his snacks from me, but i don't think he understands what i mean.

Nice to see you here again Amelia,
What about having a huge glass of water before any snacks ?
Would that help ?
You might eat less :)

Oh good on the healthy snacks !!

Well I drink a cup to a 1 1/2 cups of water before snacks and meals that way it helps me to not eat so much.

Ever try that? Of course it may not help everyone, but you never know.

that is a good idea, thank you :) i do drink a lot of water, but increasing the amount of water i drink before/during a meal will probably help.

Great to hear you drink the water before you have a snack,
That should allow you to not eat as much hopefully
Also another idea would be to wait 10 minutes before you have that snack.
Do something else, walk away .. try it, it helps :)

could you maybe ask them to hide the snacks from you??

my daughter was a major snacker, she's a junk food addict, and i do let her have stuff but i had to start hiding it ... out of sight, out of mind, and she doesnt really eat hardly any junk now except for the occasional treat that i give her, she very rarely asks for anything that isn't there and she can't see it

so maybe if your parents just hide their snacks from you then you wont be tempted to eat them?
