Breaking through the mental wall

I'm fit but lazy. It's as simple as that. I'm a sports addict, but my mind wonders further than my feet are willing to take me.

My biggest issue: I've been re-recruited for my interuniversity varsity team, boot camp begins septemer 3rd. I've been back doing the skills training, however the fitness aspect is solely my responsibility.. but I can't get myself out there, and when I do, I just really don't feel like running! I rollerblade to and from work, bike around, but the training program requires a warm up of 5K daily plus numerous interval runs and other things. After the first 1.5- 2K out of no where I hit my block. I'm not out of breath, my muscles aren't sore, I just start walking because I'm bored/ too lazy to keep going. The odd time when I have someone doing the run with me I'm perfectly fine, but by myself I honestly can't keep going. I'm a sprinter, so endurance has always been a tough spot.. but it has nothing to do with that.

My worry is as boot camp quickly approaches I'm no where near the shape I need to be in. I've tried different music, changing up my route, and starting late so I have to go go go to get to work on time. Nothing. I'm worried that if I can't conqure the wall, it's going to prevent me from doing well on the fitess testing, and look extremely bad to my team members. How do you get over that wall that just hits you? How can I keep myself going, and kick myself into gear. I want it bad. And I love working out. I haven't had it this bad in past years.

What do I do?!

Hi Karrleigh,
Welcome to the board :)

You do need to get moving now don't you ...
Being in charge makes it so you are the role model.
My son is a runner

Thanks for the replies.

Usually my schedule only permits me to run early in the mornings, however the days that I have evenings free I'm going to try and run then instead. Hopefully I'll see an improvement! I like the game of chase, and I think it'll be easier to try that too at night (few people are out and

Hi Karrleigh!

I'm new to running and I'm hitting my wall at about 2.5 miles.

I know I can go further, have done it lots,
but left to my own devices I'm done at 2.5

I hear you on not finding a full time parnter,
I broke down and got a dog - an Austrailian Shephard.
He keeps me going for a full 5 miles daily,
When we do less he's still full of energy and borderline destructive.
(still a puppy too)

Might not be an option for you,
or you might try volunteering to
