Large Weight Loss and Body Image

As I stated in my introduction post, I've lost 62 pounds, which is 42 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. I have a question for those who have lost a lot of weight. How do you deal with your changing body as you are losing weight? I feel like I'm in somebody else's skin. I mean, I feel good in my clothes because they are loose and I look nicer but my body is changing so much it is almost discouraging. Everything is so saggy and floppy. And now I have like this crease in my upper arm that wasn't there 62 pounds ago. Its icky. Its discouraging. I almost feel fatter!! But then I put on my skirt or buy a size (or two) smaller than I had been buying and I know I'm not gaining weight. Any thoughts or words?

Hi dizzfrizz,
Welcome to the board :)

Have not seen your intro post but will eventually
Wow congratulations to you on having lost all that weight!
That is just fabulous & you must be very proud of yourself.
Have you thought about either asking your doctor for specific exercises for those areas ?
What about working with weights ?
Let's see what others may suggest as well so do check back :)

Hi there again,

I am not an expert in this but your body needs to recover slowly. You can probably work on easy toning and strengthening workouts.

It will take time, so please do not expect instant results...and do not feel discouraged or give up.

Do you need any workout ideas?

At my post partum check up I asked my doctor how to work into getting in shape. He recommended I wear ankle weights around the house (I'm a SAHM with 5 children and no car) and to cut back on my carbs by 25%. I felt like that was really doable so that is where I started. I still struggle with night eating, like right before bed, but I'm doing better. So far I haven't been able to nail down a CONSISTENT work out schedule, or any other kind of schedule for that matter!! LOL I'm breast feeding my twins so life is just busy. BUT, I do try to walk with the kids, I have Jillian Michaels' Shred workout and I own a Gazelle so I'm working on getting myself in the habit of using these things. Right now I'm just walking and changing how I'm eating. So far, the weight loss has been pretty easy. I know there will come a day when it isn't so easy as I get closer to my goal weight and I know I need to nail down a consistent exercise time.

You're already doing so well dizzfrizz,
You should be very pleased with all you are working on ..
That night time eating is hard ..
Stay busy with the kids .. hang out *here*
Less eating that way
BF will help as well as I am sure you already know ..
Give yourself time to set up that schedule.
Start by posting some *simple* *doable* goals in our daily goal thread for yourself.
Remember to be proud of what you have already accomplished though :)

*I'm just walking and changing how I'm eating
Two huge steps you are alreay talking .. awesome job :)

Grats on losing all that weight, and with such a busy schedule! I don't have any advice other than to just try some toning exercises (maybe pilates too)?, but just wanted to say that I identify with being in someone else's body. I saw my legs in the mirror the other day and totally didn't realize that it was me!
