Do you wear a pedometer?

So I didn't really want a pedometer, but saw some at Walmart starting at $5 & going up to I think $20.  Didnt think they would be as cheap as $5, but how good can they be?  Thought they only counted steps, but turns out they can also count the distance, calories burned, etc.  There are even some you can upload & get charts, graphs, etc.   Wow!  Way too many choices out there.  I didn't even think I wanted charts of my progress until I learned that there are pedometers that can do it, & not too outrageously expensive ones, either.  Now I want a chart & a graph & whatever else I can get.  LOL   This has the potential to become an obsession, at least for a while until I get tired of it, & the money will have been wasted.

I googled & found this info:

http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/bb/bybpedometer.htm

http://walking.about.com/od/measure/tp/pedometer.htm

Mainly I would like it to count steps & distance.  Originally wasn't thinking of calories burned, but it may be a nice option, however, not sure how accurate it would be.  Then I'm reading that some of them are quiet.  I guess that means that you can hear the clickin in others.  That would annoy me & I would need a quiet one.  then some can be accidentally reset.  Oops.  And if you don't wear it perfectly horizontal, it's not very accurate.  So much to consider.  Oh yeah, & some of them have a week's worth of memory & can display your total for that period.  Didn't even know I wanted it until I read about it.

SO, my questions are...  Do you wear a pedometer?  What kind/brand is it?  What features does it have? How long have you had it?  Would you recommend it?  Do you feel it's a useful tool?  Is it quiet?  And whatever else you can say about it, either good or bad.  I'm trying to see if I even want one, & if so, which one, & do I really want to spend $30-40 on a fancy-shmancy one or would a cheap one do for now until I can see if I'll even use it.  Or do I even need all the bells & whistles.

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

Hi Ludam,

I use the pedometer and also use a pedometer activity chart. I did get a $5 one but it was very cheap and did not work well. I then bought one from Target called Sportline for about $9. It is probably better to get one like Hugs if you want more detailed stuff. My pedometer just registers steps.

So which one is yours? The first one or the second one? The first one lists product dimensions as 8 x 6.7 x 2 inches ; 9.6 ounces. That's for everything, including software, right? I can't imagine the pedometer itself is that big & heavy. lol

Yeah, that's another thing - I wouldnt know how to hook it up to the computer, either. And by the time dh gets around to it, it probably won't matter anymore. lol

So how long did you have yours?

Yeah, I think it might be motivating also. Like i'f I'm lets say, 4,899 steps, I will walk more to get to 5,000.

Thanks for your input.

Thank you. Does yours work well, though?

Thank you, Donna. How long have you had yours? Is it quiet? So the cheap one didn't work well?

Thank you, Gail. So the consensus is that Omron is good. Just have to decide which one suits me. Is it quiet?

I have had it for about 1 year now and it works for me. I do not need the other information. I just want it to count steps. When I went on my road trips, I did use it often and was surprised how much walking I did.
