We've all hit plateaus on our *fit & healthy* journeys, so our QOTW for this week is:

How do you beat a plateau when you hit it?
How long does it take you to break your plateau?
Does your plateau cause you to fall off the wagon?

Inquiring minds want to know, so please share! :o)

How do you beat a plateau when you hit it?
I always change my workouts and do different things

How long does it take you to break your plateau?
I never really gave my plateus and time limit. If my weight goes
down, it will do so when it is ready.

Does your plateau cause you to fall off the wagon?
Make me give up? Never. I am determined to keep going.

FYI - you shouldn't consider it a plateau until about a month of not losing.

How do you beat a plateau when you hit it?
I start measuring my food again, and I really pay attention to my food log.

How do you beat a plateau when you hit it?
I have to try different things. A few years ago when I was over 200, I lost 30 lbs and then nothing more for three months. Since what I was doing wasn't working I signed onto weight watchers. The program helped me lose 50 more lbs and then I had to take a medicine that usually causes weight loss and I got the last 10 off for a total of 90 lbs. After trying weight watchers, if I hit a plateau I made sure to write/journal everything (which I did anyway) and compare it to the previous months when I was steadily losing. If I didn't see that I was taking in too many calories then I would up my water intake. In two or three weeks if that didn't work, then I would look at how long I am exercising. Too long and the body can hold onto every calorie it gets, too little and you don't burn enough. Plateaus can take a while to figure out the right way to get through it, but they never threw me off track. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know myself and learning life's lessons.

How long does it take you to break your plateau?
I think the longest plateau I was on was three months.

Does your plateau cause you to fall off the wagon?
What can cause me to fall off the wagon is when I pms. I can't seem to get control of myself and my hormones during that time. I have symptoms longer than average meaning I have pmdd. It's not easy for me to lose weight so I will take any fraction of a pound gone that I can get. This is why I am here. I'm not pmsing right now so I can eat well and exercise, but when I am in that horrible zone, all I want to do is eat and sleep. I take vitamins and I am trying a new one as well as more calcium which is supposed to be the answer...we will see. Apparently the body only absorbs 500mg of calcium at a time and I need 1200-1500 so I need to take a pill two or three times a day. Right now I take it twice. When I'm pmsing, if two doesn't work then I will up it to three. I won't go any further unless the pro says it's okay and I don't have insurance to see him so I just won't go any further.

I know enough about weight loss and being healthy that I am so mad at myself for gaining all this weight. I know I should be nicer to myself. I should enjoy this lesson...whatever it is (I guess I am still to find out). I really don't like feeling this frumpy. 10 lbs on me is a whole dress size. 180 might look good on someone taller than me, but at 5'5" it looks terrible. The picture in my signature is of me and my husband a few years ago when I was 140. I also donated all that hair. It got longer than the picture and I donated 20 inches.

I forgot about exercise. I try one thing at a time to get over a plateau since I want to know what it is that is keeping me back. If I was doing cardio before weights then I would do weights then cardio. If that doesn't work I will try exercising at a different time. I prefer to work out in the morning before I start my day, but if I have to, I will exercise when I get home from work, but not too late that I can't get to sleep when I need to.

Where I work right now has a lake with a trail around it so I can always get a walk in if I can't do anything else.
