After weeks of nonstop rain and another 85% chance for last night, the clouds lifted and the night sky became clear for sevral hours, making the Houston Pride Parade possible!

It was awesome. Westheimer was lined up for miles (it never fails to amaze me just how big our gay community is). The parade lasted TWO HOURS!!! Geez! Many of the Democratic polititians were included, and Mayor Bill White didn't even ride in a car! He and his staff were casually walking up Westheimer, waving at the crowds (how cool is that!). Also many of our popular radio stations, Chase (where the right relationship is everything), PFLAG, LOAF (support your local LOAF *heehee* I always giggle when I read that), the gay softball league, and many many big local companies. HPD and the Houston Fire Department had their own floats for their gay employees. We made many cool friends last night, some from H town and some from other cities just visiting for the parade. Oh and I got beads! And a flag (which I actually gave to this guy behind me b/c he wanted one but got there too late), and I kept getting pelted by flying objects from the floats b/c I had a drink in one hand, cigarette in the other so I couldn't catch, but everyone around me made sure I got those objects since they hit me. It was such a nice, theraputic evening. I started to feel better again...especially driving up Montrose to pick up my friend, I saw this HUGE see-saw with two guys playing on it and waving to all the passers by...my first *giggle* in weeks! And I can't talk today, only whisper. What a night!

Okay,

WOW! You have a gay softball league? I'm amazed. I mean, around here where I live, they conceal the locations of gay/lesbian meetings to the point that it is like boot legging moonshine to get the scoop on something going on. Well, there's NOTHING going on here. LOL

And, floats for gay employees? I swear Sadie that sounds so foreign to me that it is like reading this from some futuristic novel. That's cool!

WOW! Well, if I had been there, my mouth would have been wide open the entire time.

Dear Sadie mc, Gigi here,

I'm so happy for you, Sadie. I can remember all of the gay and lesbian pride marches I've ever been a part of. And I don't mean just sitting on the sidelines either. I was in the march itself. I was shouting, laughing, chanting and I had a blast. I waved to people (people I didn't even know! lol) I can remember one march in New York City, we were marching through Greenwinch Village, I happen to look up and I saw this woman and she was absolutely NAKED! I nearly lost my place in the march. I pointed up and said out loud, LOOK! ITS THE GODDESS! and every lesbian whether they were butch or femme looked up. They probably thought I had lost my mind! But that's ok, because she looked so yummy! lol. We came to a point in one march where all was still and quiet, that portion was reserved for the people that died from AIDS. That was sooo powerful. Imagine, a huge group of people standing, absolutely still and quiet for thirty minutes, with their arm in the air for those that died of AIDS. You could have heard a rock drop. Then when the whistle blew, we started the party all over again.

Of course, we had the folks that condemed us, and we just shouted back at everyone, "Shame, Shame, Shame". I felt so sorry for them because it just shows how much of a minority hasn't gotten it yet. I guess we need some opposition, because it shows how much we, as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and whatever different sexuality that there is, to stand together and protect one another from the hatered and predjudice that still, unfortunately, exists. Other than that, I had a blast. Because of the fact that I was part of the recovering community, at the end, we all got into this huge circle, and said the Serenity Prayer. That was even more powerful, because we ended it, in prayer and in unity. I'm sorry, I just got caught up in your enthusiasm. I'm glad that you had an awsome time. I wish I was there, to enjoy it with you. But, I think I have marched myself out, but believe me, my spirit is always there with everyone that is either coming out of the closet, or is a veteran. Thanks hon. Hugs.

Hugs,

Sebastian
