Ting asked about Famous Lesbians...

In Pam's, Friday Fun questions, one by Ting got largely bypassed because it came late in the game...

However, I think it's a fascinating question and I'm going to raise it again here:

* If you could meet a famous lesbian, who would you want to meet? ~ Ting

And now I'm going to up the ante, and ask you to answer a second question:

** Imagine a dinner party of famous LGBTI people, living or dead. You, your Beloved, and six others you've invited. Who are the six famous LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Intersexed) people you would have to dinner? ~ Genta

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *

My answers:

* If you could meet a famous lesbian, who would you want to meet? ~ Ting

I think it it could only be one - I'd have to go with Caly and say Melissa Ethridge. She just seems so down to earth, and her songs have spoken directly to my lesbian soul. I'd like to tell her that.

1. Nathan Lane - I adore him!! He'd just add so much sparkle and life to the party! And maybe we could convince him to sing.

2. Whoopie Goldberg - had a few dalliances with women so she counts. I'd do whatever it took to see that fabulous smile of hers light up the room.

3. Ellen Degeneres - with her droll sense of humor, every topic would include a laugh.

4. Jean Genet - Dead. French homosexual, lifetime prisoner, and fascinating author. His life was brutal, his deeds formidable, but within it all was the soul of a poet.

5. Oscar Wilde - Dead - but what a personality. The author of The Importance of Being Ernest is welcome at my table anytime!

6. Eleanor Roosevelt - also dead, more's the pity. Did you know she took her lover into the White House as her personal secretary? But that's not why I'd invite her - I'd invite her because she was as much the president of our country during her husband's historic 16 year presidency, as he was. She was fascinatingly intelligent, an outspoken feminist, and a superior citizen in every way.

All in all I'd call that a wicked good dinner party!! Now who would you invite?

If you could meet a famous lesbian, who would you want to meet?

I wanted to and I did get to meet both Ellen Degenerous,

and Suzanne Westenhoefer back when I was doing stand up.

I met Ellen and spoke to her, got an autograph and photo.

Suzanne, I opened for in a huge theater.

They were both very down to earth women. Ellen was actually

kind of shy.

I got to hangout a bit with suzanne after the show. She rode in

my car ~sigh~ and filled me with encouragement.

Unfortunatly I never went to far because of a bad break up and

then meeting my current sweetie. I miss it though and plan to get

back to it. I only hope it is not to late. : (

Sorry to be such a bore, but it would have to be the two mentioned above and

Whoopie Goldberg, Lilly Tomlin, Gilda Radner. They all have been my inspiration

to at least attempt to make my childhood dream of becoming a comedian.

I would have to say Elanor Roosevelt, though she certainly did not come out as a lesbian she certainly seemed to be one hiding behind marriage.

What I would give for an afternoon with Del and Phyllis, just to chat about their experiences over the last 50 years.

Did you hear Pat speak? I love reading his column in Curve... always makes me laugh.

Slightly older lesbians? You were an usher at the event, and not a member, right?

I saw a presentation by Loren Cameron last year at UNH... ever here of him? Loren is ftm (chose not to have bottom surgery), does photography and has published several books of photography dealing with transpeople. At the presentation, he showed 80 slides of mtf's and ftm's, clothed and otherwise, and told their stories, what they were like, etc. Utterly fascinating. When you hear some of the details, especially for ftm's... my heart went out to them.

I'm a huge history buff, though I prefer to use herstory here (I've had people on another board be annoyed with such word usage, but that is what it is...) to talk with them, to hear of their journey... I *thrive* on such things.
