My partner and I are on a hunt for the gay friendly cities in the US out there? Do you know where they are? If so, please share this information with us!

Where do you live and do you consider it gay friendly?

What gay friendly cities do you know of?

We are not the type of family who would fit in in New York City or LA. We have modest jobs and prefer smaller cities, if possible. So, if you have any input at all, please share with us!

Thanks!

Portland, Oregon is now the "Lavender City" of America - unofficially of course, but recent statistics have shown that there is a boom in the lesbian population. There is a saying up there, I think something along the lines of "...you'll find a dyke on every corner. Theye're everywhere". I am actually considering moving to this city within the next year. It all depends on how things go with my custody issues and school.

I live in Houston, and yes it is a very GLBT friendly metropolitan area. H town is nothing like NYC or LA, we're a bit more laid back and blue collar types here. I will say that although there is a huge gay population, the majority is men and MTF tg's. Most of our clubs are male oriented, but there are quite a few good les bars to frolick through.

I am currently doing some hard research on the Portland area (ie, economy, cost of living, arts-entertainment-lifestyle, etc.) Let me know if you'd like me to share any of my info, or if you'd like some knowledge on the Houston area. I'd be glad to help y'all.

Hi Stopthehate,

Indianapolis, is pretty darn good. We have a very active glbt community,

businesses, gay friendly Mayor, governor and congress woman.

The cost of living is very modest. We are doing great on my g/f income and

my partial millitary disability. We own a home, have enough money to go out

to dinner, theater, concerts etc.

There is always something going on here.

We have Gay bars and restaurants, a fun gay pride week. Other gay and lesbian

events, many softball fields, hockey, other althletic things where there are

gays and lesbians. Game night for lesbians who love to get together for board

games. Book stores, theater.

Then we have all the major and amature sports here, with the exception of

major league baseball. We do have a very awesome farm league that fans will

die for.

Gambling boats galore within 2 hrs drive.

2 horse racing tracks and an off track betting place.

Lakes for boating, fishing etc.

Our house is a 2 bedroom, with a garage and a huge workshop out back, all fenced

in. We bought it 7 years ago for $55.000. Our payments are only $550. a month.

We have just about every major store for shopping.

Nice malls and a beautifull and active downtown.

Many places will rent to people with pets. Especially in our area.

We never feel poor or like we have to miss out on anything due to cost of

living. Right now our State Fair is going on here.

We have gay and lesbian comedy shows even. Many local bands as well as

major concerts. A great outdoor concert area.

Are you packing yet?? If you have kids we have many nice schools and colleges

galore.

This place grew on me fast. I thought I would hate it after being spoiled by

the Navy living on the coast for so long. We also have some very nice parks.

This is a great place for modest incomes and plenty of oppertunities and always

something to do close to home.

You can be in the country or rural areas and then back to the city in like

20 minuets. It is also clean yet has alot of historical places.

Any more info that you might want I can send to you if you would like.

Hope you find a place that suits you.

I forgot to mention that we are only a three hour drive from

Chicago. We also have a train system that you can take to Chicago

if you do not feel like driving.

We are within 6 or less hours from Tenn., ST Louis, Madison Wis.

2 hours from Cinc.,Ohio, and Kentucky, Great for weekend road trips.

Ok I will stop here.

Hi!

Provincetown (or P-Town, as it is called by New Englanders like myself) is a very gay friendly place to be. It is located at the very tip of the Cape (and a bit of a drive down there!) but SOOO worth it. The beach as absolutely beautiful and it's just lovely, on a warm summer day, to walk around to the various shops (most are gay-owned and there are a lot of gay-related things for sale). It is a very artsy town - a lot of little galleries (but the paintings can be very expensive!) There are a lot of tourists who visit who are not gay, but because it is widely known to be predominantly gay there, the ones who are against it don't bother to travel that far down the Cape because they would be very outnumbered.

It's very quiet, very nice to walk around, take a boat ride, sit outside and enjoy an ice cream. You'll also see a lot of people with their dogs, they are also welcome. But keep in mind also that P-Town is quite expensive if you plan to stay there - especially during peak season in the summer! To save a bit, you may want to stay a little closer to the mainland, like in Yarmouth and drive down (it's not far from there).
