My partner and I are on a hunt for the gay friendly cities in the US out there? Do you know where they are? If so, please share this information with us!

Where do you live and do you consider it gay friendly?

What gay friendly cities do you know of?

We are not the type of family who would fit in in New York City or LA. We have modest jobs and prefer smaller cities, if possible. So, if you have any input at all, please share with us!

Thanks!

I think we all have places we are comfortable with, and some we might not be. Here is a link that gives lists of good places...

I know a few in Portland, and they have tried to talk me into moving there... maybe one day!

I love Madison, WI also... and San Francisco is a great place. Never have seen problems here either, and people are fine with lgbt people, but...

This isn't a huge metro area, though if you are outdoorsy it is a nice place... and it is convenient to lakes, mountains, the ocean, and Boston, all within an hour's drive. I just think the Madison's and Portland's are more laid back, and cater some to our community. You won't see Elvira Kurt or Melissa Ferrick playing regularly here, and that sort of thing I do value. Alternately, seeing Melissa in Boston is *nuts*... she is from the area originally, and the shows are huge, not as personal. I've seen her in Boston, a public show in Gainesville, a private one in Gainesville, and in Madison... the Boston one was not fun, the others were wonderful.

Things in this area can be manic, everyone is always moving at top speed... it's just hard to explain.

A bit more... my thanks to Tarrant for originally sharing the info...

I think the best places to live are liberal college small towns. Northampton Mass. is great for this, but not just Noho, but the whole region between it and Amherst and the adjoining towns (the "happy valley") is just wonderful and once you get a little out of Amherst and Northampton, it's not ludicrously expensive to live. But not just Massachusetts, but almost everywhere that there's a major university.

My partner and I live on Cape Cod (Dennis) and honestly, we're looking at moving to Vermont or back to the Happy Valley. I guess it's gay friendly here, but finding friends hasn't been really all that easy. We'll see if there's some hidden community as we're probably going to end up pretty high profile in four months or so.

Ptown I think would be a no for most of us. You might find a 1 bedroom condo in ptown for $400k if you're really lucky, but there are almost no jobs that could support that kind of mortgage. It's a great great place to visit, but it's not really a realistic place to live unless you're extremely wealthy. But really everyone should go visit ptown now! It really is a wonderful fun time.

I think that for the most part that's a pretty good idea Kathy.
