>>Honduras Recognizes Grants Official Recognition To Gay Civil Rights Groups

by The Associated Press

http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/09/090604honduras.htm

(Tegucigalpa, Honduras) Catholic and Protestant churches are condemning a government decision to grant legal recognition to three LGBT rights groups.

"It's sad that the government is giving its blessing to homosexuals," Roman Catholic Church spokesman Jesus Mora told a news conference. He said the government measure implies "that kind of behavior is acceptable."

The government on Friday granted legal recognition to three groups - the Violet Collective, the Gay Community and the Gay-Lesbian Group - a relatively mundane step that essentially gives them the right to act before courts and government institutions. Homosexual acts remain illegal, and gays have no legal protections in the country.

The deputy justice minister, Fernando Suazo, said the measure does not authorize gay sex or marriage, but would help overcome discrimination.<<

I know there are churches that embrace lgbt people, including Unitarian Universalist, Episcopal(in NH at least!), some Jewish synagogues...

it seems the worst offender is my former religion... the Catholic church, one organisation that should be taking a deep look within and hanging their heads in shame. Two priests that served at our parish while I attended school there are now in prison for paedophilia; our local bishop was knee deep in covering it all up. I was unaware of this when I left, was their discrimination against women, the cookie cutter mentality, the squeezing what was likely the poorest parish in the state for more money. In 1988 an insurance trade magazine came across my desk... though no one knew precise info because the church is so secretive, they estimated church liability for paedophilia worldwide at *10 billion dollars*, again... this was 16 years ago.

Now here they are saying we are perverts. An organisation that persecuted the likes of Galileo, who held the Inquisition, who actually had a group called the Assasini (guess what word comes from them?), who is supposed to be about love and bringing people together... wishes to devalue human beings because of their sexual orientation.

If they truly wish to be about love and bringing people together... they could learn a lot from the dyke community.

Sorry... tis a nelle hot button.

This is a very touchy subject, so I normally don't get involved. But I wanted to tell you that the last priest at my church (Catholic, of which I am currently not practicing)was supportive of all people. He retired, and I left the church. It was very nice to be involved in a church where they loved all people, what a rarity. You should not let these things make you angry, because its something you cannot change. I think we all made some sort of deal with God before we were born, we decided what we wanted to accomplish on this earth while we were here. Some people came as african american baptists, and some as lesbian wiccans, others male catholics. We are all doing what works for us, and no one is doing the wrong thing. Anyway,my point is: you can't change what is going on, so try not to get yourself all worked up. Take care, Sandra

Organized religion is losing its hold on the people, so it strikes out against those

Kim, What I meant can't be changed is people's beliefs of what is biblically right and wrong. What can be changed is how we treat eachother. If someone is standing there with their bible, and quoting what they interpret to be God's word, we can't and shouldn't interfere with that. But, we can remind them to turn the page and read where it says we are all His children and we should love one another. I couldn't care less if christians don't approve of my love for Jen, but I won't tolerate being discriminated against. We can change our rights, one vote at a time, but we are only going to kill ourselves trying to fight "God's word" or change how people feel about us. Let them feel how they want to, but demand equal treatment. I will stay our of their bedroom if they stay out of mine! That's all I was saying...and this is precisely why I shouldn't have said it! hehe, love ya Kim! Sandra

There are many organized religions who are open and affirming including my own congregation (United Church of Christ.) I could show you countless passages in scripture that would show support for gay and lesbian issues. Also, look at what Christ himself said about homosexuality . . . absolutely nothing.

"Every act is an expression of love or a call for love." (A Course in Miracles)

It's important to try to see the calling for love from the people such as you mentioned who are living in fear and choosing darkness because of their fear.

People who are open to loving all people have a different perspective on life than those who do not. We can only live our life following love first and even loving those people who may hate us and how we live our lives. Darkness and light cannot dwell in the same place at the same time, so don't let their darkness damper your continued light.

I'm sorry Sandra.. I simply cannot buy into this line of thinking. If that were so, women wouldn't even be able to vote or have reproductive freedom. Geez, we'd all still be possessions of our fathers or of a husband, bought and sold with dowrys big enough to make us worth the trouble...chattel.

We CAN change things, maybe only one person, one group, one state, one generation at a time.. but it's still progress forward. I can see a nature that's forgiving and non-confrontational in your words. It's a very sweet and gentle thing. But think this, that last priest who was so supportive of all people - do you think he didn't get any flak for it? I bet he did, working for a company that promotes bigotry and hatred.
