OT: Thinking good thoughts for Jamaica

Ivan is now a Catagory 5 storm, sustained winds are an incredible 160 mph, with higher gusts. Nothing much can stand that kind of force. Unfortunately, given living conditions there for many already, this is not a good thing.

Anyway... we need all the good thoughts we can muster, and every little thing helps.

I definitely echo those thoughts, raye. I have a friend who was supposed to go to Jamaica this week on business with her DH, and the trip has been postponed until next week. That is now likely to change.

Sending all the positive thoughts I can muster.

Wishing Ivan would blow itself out and NOT go near Florida.

Prayers and well wishes to all in the islands

I've been praying for Jamica. I worry so much too about FL. Last Sunday, my mom called me and was upset. Her power was flickering on and off. Well, I didn't hear from her again until Wednesday. She was without power and phone. She called from her cell phone that wasn't working too well either. These darn hurricanes are about to drive me nutty. And, the mountains of NC had flooding from Frances. I know some of you may think that to be strange, but there were actually people who lost homes from flood waters in the mountains. Where I live, they had to close several major bridges for a day due to rains.

Whew! I'm ready for hurricane season to be over already! Please!

One more thing I want to add. This morning as I was driving in to work listening to Bob and Sherri in the Morning, they were discussing all the hurricanes and bad weather. They began talking about how people in other parts of the country are sort of numb to what happens in other parts of the country--like for example, they mentioned the wildfires in CA. And, they said that though we feel badly for those in CA experiencing the wildfires, it is hard for an east coast person who's never lived in CA to understand the awful experience of losing it all in a wildfire, just as a person whose never lived on the East coast can understand the experience of a hurricane. Then, they began to talk about if there was a part of the country one could live and not experience floods, tornados, hurricanes, wildfires, huge snowstorms, or earthquakes. And, all came to the conclusion that the only safe place in the U.S.A. free from natural disasters was Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Santa Fe or bust? LOL

Well can't say living here in Northeast that I have experiened many Hurricanes, Tornados, Wild Fires, or Floods, although there have been some.. But I still feel for those people and at times am glad I am in this area..
But we do get some terrible Blizzards in the winter and Ice Storms both of which cause much havoc, loss of power... Deaths(sadly) and pin a lot of us inside our homes or whereever we happen to be,

Ivan has changed path and should be hitting the Gulf Coast (Mobile/Pensacola area) by Wednesday night. As of now it is a category 4 but could still go back to Cat 5, or even change paths once again, who knows? Anyway, sis is trying to convince Grandmary to evacuate should the storm stay on it's projected path, but she's an old woman and thinks she can manage through the storm - actually Gmary is concerned about her elderly neighbor who has no family and nowhere to go, so mom was on the phone earlier telling sis that Gmary can bring her out here too if need be. Anyway, I may have quite a few houseguests come Wednesday! Sis, baby, dh, Gmary, Gmary's neighbor, and whomever else tags along.

It's a good feeling to know that your family can count on you in a crisis.

Let's hope this thing weakens significantly. Forward speed is also a factor for those east of the storm... if the hurricane drops in strength but adds forward speed, that makes up for some lost strength.

Thinking good and positive thoughts for all who may be in it's path.
