Grandmary's neighbor called last night to inform us that her roof has totally collapsed in and her kitchen is under a foot of water. We have also heard from other relatives that stayed behind, all of whom sustained major damage to thier homes. We haven't heard from several others yet, as well as the status on mom's house (the one Lauren & Lee have been living in for the past couple of years). Lauren was almost hysterical last night when she realized that mom has no homeowner's insurance on the property, and they never took out a renter's insurance policy. So many antiques, heirlooms, pictures, computer/TV/other expensive things - not to mention the house has been in the family for over half a century built by my great great aunt...Since the house is just a few blocks from Gmary's and we already know that area is flooded, there are also two huge oak trees up against that house, so we have no idea what the extent of the damage is there yet. ~sigh. So, sis and them will be headed back early next week to see the damage. Hoping and praying that the fly-by-night *clean up crews* don't find them. I should have more time to play catch-up once they're gone, since my room is being occupied and my only time on the computer is at work for now (which I need to keep to a minimum since so many co-workers like to chat around my desk).

Also went to my first live Comets game last night, the last home game of the season. They had to win this game and the last two games to make it to the playoffs. It was more stress on me than anything, since the Comets trailed by only one - two points throughout the game, until the very end when the other team scored like 10 more points. So today I'm hoarse (from screaming for two hours last night) and depressed about that loss and more so the situation in Florida.

So, hope everyone's doing better. I'll be back soon to catch up. xo.

Can FEMA help if there is no insurance?

I said a prayer for your family and their homes.

Keep us posted sadie.

Well you're not too far off the ball there nurse. We found out that power may not be restored to most of Pcola for at least a month. Gmary is persistent about returning though b/c she's suppose to host a luncheon on Wed for some social group she's in. Of course there is no getting through her head that "Hello! You're roof is gone and your house is flooded. They're NOT gonna have that fixed by Wednesday!!!" ~sigh. And Lee wants to get back to see if he still has a job, even though he's on temporary disability for his broken arm from the car wreck, he's still anxious to get back to work if the plant didn't shut down. But sis and the baby will be staying indefinitely. She's hoping that maybe she can transfer her tuition to a community college out here so that she can get back to school asap. I also have a feeling that Gmary will be turning around and comming back once reality has set in.....

Thanks for the prayer laurie. We'll take all the prayers we can get right now. But as Pam said, everyone is alive and well and that's what really matters. Even though I'm heartbroken about Gmary's and mom's houses (both of which had been built by family and remained in our families)...material things are replaceable.

Sorry to hear they had so much damage.

Also sorry GMary wants to go home to host a luncheon.

Sounds like she does not want to believe that it could be so bad.

We saw the news photos. It looks pretty bad. And yes it is a good thing they got out of there. No telling what might have happened.

Will FEMA help with the houses? I should ask my friend Art he is supposed to be down there. He is a FEMA Inspector.

Hugs,

Laurie
